New England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce will have to make do without three key players for his managerial debut against Spain next week.
Three key elements of Pearce's squad have withdrawn from the match, to be played at Pride Park in Derby, on Tuesday.
Blackburn striker Matt Derbyshire limped out of his club's clash with Sheffield United on Saturday after sustaining a thigh injury.
Wigan full-back Leighton Baines has also been forced to withdraw from Pearce's first squad, as has Middlesbrough midfielder Lee Catermole.
Birmingham striker Carmeron Jerome has been called up as Pearce prepares his side for the next summer's European Championships in Holland.
