Everton crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday as they were humbled 3-0 by Lyon in France.
The French side had won 2-1 at Goodison Park but the two teams went into the break level as they more or less cancelled each other out.

Former Chelsea man Bertrand Traoré opened the scoring with just over twenty minutes to go when he pounced on a loose ball to round Jordan Pickford well and slot home.
Substitute Houssem Aouar then doubled the scoring when he side-footed into the net following a clever reverse pass from Memphis Depay.
And the former Manchester United player completed the scoring with a powerful header a couple of minutes from time, at which stage Everton were down to ten men following a red card for Morgan Schneiderlin.
It was a dismal night for caretaker manager David Unsworth, who is yet to win a game in charge and now looks unlikely to get the job on a permanent basis.
Everton are rooted to the foot of Group E with one point against Apollon Limassol and defeats to Atalanta and Lyon - who won 2-1 at Goodison Park - exposing their deficiencies.
It is a fifth straight defeat for Everton, who last drew a match in a 1-1 result at Brighton on October 15 before Ronald Koeman was sacked following the 5-2 drubbing by Arsenal eight days later.
They occupy 18th in the Premier League table, and it looks like they face a long harsh winter to avoid relegation to the Championship.

TALKING POINT

Everton are in deep trouble. The performance against Chelsea in Unsworth's first game in charge was actually pretty good but when you look back on it with hindsight how much of that was down to Chelsea playing quite a weakened team? Since then it's been shambolic and the last two games have seen an aggregate defeat of 5-0. Unsworth clearly isn't the man for the job so now the question is where do they turn? Sam Allardyce seems like a step backwards whilst Sean Dyche might struggle with the step up. It's a tough one...

MAN OF THE MATCH

Memphis Depay (Lyon) He has burned hot and cold so far for Lyon since joining but tonight was one of those performances that reminded you why Manchester United shelled out for him in the first place. He was absolutely terrific, moving all around the pitch and causing chaos for Everton. His assist for Aouar was gorgeous and then his header was hugely impressive. With Depay, Traore and Nabil Fekir interchanging up front Lyon are going to cause a lot of teams problems this season.

PLAYER RATINGS

Lyon - Lopes 7, Rafael 5, Marcelo 6, Diakhaby 6, Mendy 6, Tousart 6, N'Dombele 5, Cornet 6, Fekit 6, Depay 7, Traore 7. Subs: Aouar 7, Mariano 5, Ferri 5.
Everton - Pickford 5, Kenny 5, Holgate 4, Williams 3, Martina 5, Schneiderlin 2, Gueye 4, Baningime 5, Lennon 4, Sigurdsson 5, Lookman 5. Subs: Besic 4, Calvert-Lewin 5, Vlasic 5.

KEY MOMENTS

23' - CHANCES! A Lyon corner is cleared but they get a chance to put it back in and it's a great ball from Depay. Traore flicks it and Pickford gets down well to block it. Fekir is on the follow-up but he flashes it across goal.
68' - GOAL! LYON 1-0 EVERTON (TRAORE) Commentator's curse right there! Schneiderlin slides in to win a loose ball and deflects into the path of Traore. He rounds Pickford really well and slots it home. Terrific goal from the former Chelsea man.
76' - GOAL! LYON 2-0 EVERTON (AOUAR) That could be the end of Everton in the Europa League.; A wonderful goal for Lyon as Mariano bursts into the box only for Pickford to make an excellent save with his feet. It comes to Depay and he reverse it wonderfully to the substitute Aouar who side-foots it into the net.
81 - RED CARD! And to compound matters Schneiderlin has just been show his second red of the season. He makes a stupid challenge on Cornet and he's already been booked so he's off.
88' - GOAL! LYON 3-0 EVERTON (DEPAY) And as I write that Lyon get their third. The ball is swung in from deep and Depay leaps tallest to power a header home. Another good result.

KEY STATS

This was the biggest defeat for an English team against French opposition in Europe since Oct 1997 (Strasbourg 3-0 Liverpool).
Morgan Schneiderlin is the only Premier League player to have been sent off more than once in 2017/18 (also v Man City).
