Rolando scored a controversial goal in extra-time to send Marseille through to the Europa League final after a 2-1 win at Red Bull Salzburg.
Marseille took a 2-0 lead to Austria and were content to sit back and absorb pressure for the first half.
A young Salzburg side quickly lost their direction, and save for one Fredrik Gulbrandsen penalty appeal and a Moanes Dabbur shot, Marseille were comfortable enough.
In the second half, two early goals, a Amadou Haidara solo effort and a Bouna Sarr own goal, levelled the tie, forcing Marseille into action as Rudi Garcia chased the game for the first time.
The pressure almost paid off when Florian Thauvin might have been awarded a penalty when his shot clearly hit Duje Caleta-Car's arm. The defender then thought he had won the match in extra time only to see Yohann Pele pull off an astonishing save from his header.
As the game moved towards 120 minutes, Rolando popped up at an erroneously awarded corner to shin in at the back post to break Salzburg's hearts, and set up a final with Atletico Madrid after Haidara was sent off for a late elbow on Dimitri Payet.

TALKING POINT

Should Marseille have been given a corner? Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa's shot was fiercely struck and then deflected away from goal, but it plainly hit one of his own players, not a Red Bull Salzburg defender. As much as the decision was the wrong one from the referee, Marseille had also been denied an obvious second half penalty.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Yohann Pele (Marseille): Pele won back his place in football after two years out with a pulmonary embolism. He managed to recover his health, dislodge Marseille legend Steve Mandanda in goal, and on the night pulled off a brilliant point-blank stop amongst other saves, keeping his side in the game.
