Rangers are out of European competition, but they can be very proud of the run they made to the last 16. In the end, Bayer Leverkusem were too strong for them. Havertz and his teammates didn't even get out of second gear as they got the job done in the second leg. They could go all the way in this season's Europa League.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Rangers (4-1 on aggregate)
Barisic effort! That was likely Rangers' last opportunitty to find the back of the net this evening, with Barisic's shot saved by Hradecky. The final while will be soon in coming after this.
There will be just two minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
- OffExequiel PalaciosBayer 04 Leverkusen
- OnAdrian StanilewiczBayer 04 Leverkusen
Another change for the home side as they wind down the clock to a quarter final place.
Bailley... over the bar! The Jamaican winger lined up the freekick from distance, but it was always going to need to be good to beat McGregor from there and it wasn't.
It's worth recapping the run Rangers have had in the Europa League this season. They achieved some impressive results against Braga, Feyenoord and Porto. Have done very well.
Rangers know this one is over. There's still an intensity to their play which deserves some credit, but there's no real belief behind what they are doing. Going through the motions.
Good chance for Stewart! Hagi forced the mistake from Hradecky, with the ball falling to Stewart inside the area, but the Rangers forward could only send his shot wide of the far post.
PICTURE: Diaby's goal is the difference.
- OffJames TavernierRangers
- OnNathan PattersonRangers
Rangers captain Tavernier comes off for youngster Patterson. Gerrard looking ahead to the weekend.
- OffAlfredo MorelosRangers
- OnGreg StewartRangers
Morelos' game is over and the Colombian is replaced by Stewart.
- OffSven BenderBayer 04 Leverkusen
- OnJonathan TahBayer 04 Leverkusen
A change for the home side and the highly rated Tah comes on for the final 10 minutes.
At what point will Gerrard start to turn his thoughts to the weekend's Scottish Premiership game against St Mirren? Rangers need three points to get their title challenge really going.
15 minutes to play at the BayArena and while Rangers haven't disgraced themselves this evening, you'd have to say this is game over. They're not going to score three times this evening.
Off the line! That's the closest Rangers have come to finding the back of the net. Barisic's deep freekick to the back post was a good one, Goldson headed on target, but Tapsoba clears off the line!
- OffMoussa DiabyBayer 04 Leverkusen
- OnLeon BaileyBayer 04 Leverkusen
It's actually a triple change for the home side with Bailley also coming off the bench.
- OffFlorian WirtzBayer 04 Leverkusen
- OnJulian BaumgartlingerBayer 04 Leverkusen
So too is Baumgartlinger, who wil get the final 20 minutes for the home side.
- OffLars BenderBayer 04 Leverkusen
- OnAleksandar DragovicBayer 04 Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen are also going to make a couple changes of their own. Drgaovic is on...
- Yellow cardIanis HagiRangers
That was a late tackle frm Hagi on Aranguiz and the Romanian is shown a yellow card.
- OffRyan KentRangers
- OnJordan JonesRangers
... and Gerrard also makes the decision to change Kent for Jones.
- OffSteven DavisRangers
- OnScott ArfieldRangers
A couple of changes here for Rangers. Davis comes off for Arfield...
Rangers have 25 minutes to turn this game around, but they need three goals to just take it to extra time. They have given themselves so much to do here. A deep hole.
If course, it was Hagi who sparked an incredible comeback for Rangers from two goals down against Braga in the last round of this season's Europa League. Can he do it again?
- OffBrandon BarkerRangers
- OnIanis HagiRangers
Here is the change and Hagi comes on for Barker. The decision from Gerrard didn't really work.
Hagi is a player who can create something out of nothing, and he had been in good form of late, so the Romanian will surely be a bit confused that he was left out of the starting lineup tonight.
It looks like Rangers are getting ready to make a change. There is some activity down on the touchline and it appears Hagi might be about to come on for the away side.
PICTURE: Morelos has been quiet on the whole.
Morelos worked a crossing position at the byline and attempted to find Tavernier in the middle, but the Rangers right back just couldn't bundle his way through the Leverkusen defence.
It will obviously be disappointing for Rangers to be eliminated out of the Europa League, but they have done so well to make it this far. It has been a great continental season for them.
Big save from McGregor! Havertz was clean through and should have found the back of the Rangers net, but McGregor did well to make the save with his feet. That should have been 2-0.
- Yellow cardBrandon BarkerRangers
Here's a booking for Barker who has really struggled to get into the game.
- GoalMoussa DiabyBayer 04 Leverkusen
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Bayer Leverkusen 1 (51 mins - Moussa Diaby) Rangers 0. There's the breakthrough for Bayer Leverkusen on the night and that goal all but ensures the Bundesliga side will be the ones in the quarter final! The ball was played over the top for Diaby and the winger finished high into the roof of the net!
Someone needs to spark Rangers into life. This has been a relatively flat performance from Gerrard's men despite the fact they have looked pretty well organised at the back.
Rangers are having to do a bit of defending at the start of this second half, with Goldson heading behind at the back post for a corner kick. He has been pretty solid this evening.
Bayer Leverkusen have played this match at their own pace so far. Of course, they don't have to chase the game. They have a healthy lead from the first leg played at Ibrox back in February.
It's a little surprising that Gerrard hasn't made a change to his Rangers team at the half time interval. This system hasn't really worked for the away side. Surely they need Arfield or Hagi?
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's 0-0 between Bayer Leverkusen and Rangers in this Europa League second leg, 3-1 on aggregate.
What did you make of the first half at the BayArena? Is there any way back for Rangers on aggregate? Have they simply given themselves too much to do? Tweet me your thoughts!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Bayer Leverkusen 0-0 Rangers (3-1 on aggregate). The Germans have had the better of the scoring opportunities, but it's still level in this last 16 second leg at the BayArena.
- Yellow cardDaley SinkgravenBayer 04 Leverkusen
Sinkgraven picks up a booking right at the end of the first half.
You would think Gerrard will introduce Hagi for the second half. They need to take a grip of this game and the young Romanian would help them do that. We'll see him soon, surely.
What a chance! Diaby was played in behind, his shot was blocked, but then the ball falls to Wirtz. He had time to take a touch and set himself up inside the box, but Helander makes the block.
That was promising! Rangers had a two-on-two with Barker one of the pair. The former Man City youngster got the shot away from the edge of the box, but it was deflected behind for a corner.
Rangers will need to throw caution to the wind a bit more in the second half here. They have played reasonably well, but they need three goals to stand a chance of making the quarters.
He went for it! The pass over the top of Helander from Havertz was a beauty, it was set up nicely for Diaby on the full volley, but the Leverkusen winger fired his effort miles over the bar.
Rangers have fallen out of this game in the last five-to-10 minutes. Bayer Leverkusen have taken control and they are playing the contest at their own pace. Easily on top right now.
It's worth noting that the winner of this tie, which looks like being Bayer Leverkusen at this moment, will face Inter in the quarter finals of the Europa League next week in a one-off match.
Gerrard made the decision to start Barker over Hagi with the intention of playing on the counter attack, but Rangers haven't been able to play that way much in this first half so far.
Diaby from distance! Bayer Leverkusen fly forward on the counter attack, with Diaby taking aim from about 30 yards out. It was a decent strike, but McGregor was always confident it was going over!
Morelos had a half-chance early on, but the Colombian striker hasn't been involved in the match much since then. Rangers need more from him. Much more. He's playing at half pace.
PICTURE: Morelos had a half-chance early on.
Rangers are doing a good job of getting bodies back and packing the defence to make it difficult for Leverkusen to play through. They need to show more on the counter attack, though.
Play is running again. Gerrard had some things to say to his Rangers players during the drinks break. He will surely want to see more in an attacking sense before the half time break.
Cooling break! There has been a lot of people questioning these breaks, but they are needed tonight. It's 32 C in Leverkusen this evening. The heat has been a factor in this match.
As well as Rangers have played in these opening 25 minutes, you'd say Bayer Leverkusen have had the best two chances by quite some distance. They should be ahead.
It was Havertz who had the opportunity to find the back of the net, but it came from a pass by Palacios. The two Leverkusen midfielders can sure pick out a ball! Incredible!
HAVERTZ... puts it wide! That should have been the opener for Bayer Leverkusen, with Havertz played in behind. But the German international puts his low shot just wide of the post. That was close.
Gerrard will be largely pleased with how his Rangers team have played in the opening 20 minutes. They have looked organised and well-drilled at the back and have carried threat on the counter.
PICTURE: The main man for Leverkusen.
Of course, there has been much speculation about the future of Morelos at Rangers, with the Colombian striker attracting interest from Lille. Could this be his last game for the club?
That last opportunity demonstrated just how dangerous Havertz is. That was barely a chance and yet he fired off a rocket that had McGregor beaten. The bar came to Rangers' rescue.
Off the top of the bar! What a goal that would have been for Havertz! The ball was played into the area, Volland knocked it down for his teammate and Havertz smashed a strike off the top of the Rangers crossbar!
- Yellow cardCharles AránguizBayer 04 Leverkusen
Aranguiz becomes the first player to be booked, going through the back of Morelos.
This has been a good start by Rangers. They have found themselves in dangerous positions a couple times already. It's an open game. Leverkusen don't look in total control.
Aribo has started the season well. He played well against Aberdeen in the opening day of the league season on Saturday and was very impressive in the pre-seaso friendlies.
Havertz is played down the channel, with the atacking midfielder bursting to the byline. Helander does well to get across and the Rangers defender wins the corner kick off Havertz.
Shot from Diaby! The young winger was presented with the chance to get the shot away from the edge of the box, but Tavernier gets across to make a deflection and it flashes wide.
This is a good spell from Rangers. It was Bayer Leverkusen who started the match the better of the two teams, but the visitors from Govan are starting to make their mark.
First Rangers chance! That was an opportunity for Morelos, with Barisic finding the Colombian striker in the middle with a lobbed cross into the middle, but his touch was poor!
Wirtz was trying to get Volland in behind the Rangers defence, but Tavernier was alert to the danger and came across to make the interception and carry the ball away from danger.
Rangers have been impressive in Europe this season. In fact, it's where they have had their best results under Gerrard over the past two seasons. Can they pull off a comeback?
There will be a lot of focus on Havertz this evening. The German international is believed to be on the brink of a £90 million move to Chelsea, but he features for Leverkusen tonight.
There's no doubt Rangers are up against it tonight, trailing 3-1 from the first leg away from home, but Gerrard's side have shown good form over the early stages of the new season.
- 1st Half
The match is under way, but not before all 22 players take a knee. It's Bayer Leverkusen against Rangers in this Europa League last 16 second leg!
Okay, here we go. We're about to get started at the BayArena. Kick off is just moments away.
The two teams are out at the BayArena. Rangers have been in good form of late. Can they overturn the first leg deficit?
It is baking hot in the industrial heartlands of Germany. That could be a factor for both teams this evening.
Barker starts! Gerrard has thrown in a curve ball here. Hagi has been in great form for Rangers over the first couple weeks of the season, but he has been dropped for Barker! That is a BIG call!
Havertz starts! He has been linked with a move to Chelsea to such an extent that a transfer seems inevitable, but Havertz is in the starting lineup for Bayer Leverkusen this evening! What a talent he is!
