Manchester United have, somehow, lost in yet another semi-final. They created a number of opportunities but weren't clinical enough and then switched off at the back as Sevilla, with all their know-how in this competition, punished them. They will meet the winner of Inter and Shakhtar in Friday's final.

FULL-TIME: SEVILLA ARE THROUGH TO THE FINAL OF THE EUROPA LEAGUE!

90'+5

de Jong wins possession for Sevilla but instead of going to the corner flag he allows Maguire to steal it back for United. But they are almost there...

A last throw of the dice as Solskjaer throws on Odion Ighalo...

90'+2

United are throwing the kitchen sink at Sevilla but the Liga side are holding their nerve.

90'

James doesn't gamble as a teasing cross comes in from the left and Sevilla clear their lines. There are going to be SIX minutes of added-time to play...

TRIPLE United sub: Fosu-Mensah, James and Mata are on. Time is running out for Solskjaer's side.

84'

No penalty! United appeal for another spot-kick as Fernandes goes down inside the area, but the referee says no and VAR agrees.

82'

Solskjaer has still yet to make a substitute, which is very strange. United look out on their feet. They need to implement Plan B, and fast.

80'

United look absolutely rattled. There's arguments at the back, with Lindelof displaying his angst. United are heading for a third semi-final defeat of the season.

  • Luuk de Jong

GOAL! Sevilla 2-1 Man Utd (de Jong): United switch off; Sevilla are ahead! Terrible defending as Williams allows Munir's cross to be delivered and Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka remain flat footed as the unmarked De Jong pokes home!

77'

United register their 20th shot, with Greenwood trying his luck from range. It's a comfortable stop for Bounou this time, though.

76'

Williams is dispossessed and Sevilla break, but between Fred and Fernandes United win the ball back.

76'
74'

No penalty, is the decision. And it's the correct decision. Sevilla make a change, with Suso making way for Vazquez.

73'

Penalty appeal! Jordan smashes his free-kick into a two-man wall, with the ball striking Fernandes. Sevilla are demanding a penalty for handball and VAR is checking it...

72'

Free-kick! Reguilon is facing away from goal when Wan-Bissaka commits the foul. It's needless and gives Sevilla a free-kick in a really dangerous area...

70'

Greenwood skips past his marker and runs into space down the right. With team mates lining up centrally, shooting, perhaps, is the wrong choice as he sees his shot blocked.

69'

Shot! Pogba smashes one on the half-volley but it's always rising and never troubling Bounou.

  • Marcus Rashford

65'

Greenwood buys a smart free-kick from Reguilon, as Sevilla continue to improve and enjoy more possession after a shaky start to the second-half.

-

Sevilla have somehow weathered the storm...

61'

Williams has recovered after a slow start to the game and he does well to tackle Munir, preventing a Sevilla break, and then winning United a free-kick.

60'
57'

United have made a blistering start to the second-half but somehow they're still level with Sevilla. Solskjaer is delighted on the touchline. More chances are sure to come their way.

Double Sevilla sub: Ocampos has picked up a knock and is replaced by Munir El Haddadi, while Luuk de Jong comes on for El-Nasyri.

54'

Martial denied, again! The Frenchman must be more clinical as he denied by the Sevilla goalkeeper at point-blank range once more.

53'

Another save! Martial wins the ball back with the high-press, exchanging passes with Pogba before seeing his shot saved by Bounou who is having an absolute stormer.

50'

Close! Martial wriggles his way into the penalty area but again it ends in frustration as Bounou makes another save at his near post and then Fernandes' shot is blocked by Reguilon.

49'

Chances! It just won't go in for United. Fernandes's cross finds Martial at the far post but his shot from a tight angle is saved by Bounou. It falls to Rashford who sees his effort blocked!

47'

Great save! Greenwood has a wonderful opportunity to restore United's lead as Fernandes threads the eye of a needle with a great pass, but the youngster sees his shot saved by Bounou.

  • 2nd Half
46'

Kick-off! Sevilla get us underway in the second-half.

-
-

United have looked vulnerable in the wide positions. With Williams on a yellow card, that is a worry for the second-half. Wan-Bissaka is supposed to be looking after Reguilon on the opposite flank but that is not a job he is carrying out effectively so far.

HT

Half-time: United make a mess of their final attack of the first-half, as the referee draws time on a dramatic opening period.

45'+2'

Save! Fernandes tests Bounou with a swerving shot from the edge of the penalty area, forcing the Sevilla goalkeeper into a fine save.

45'

Two minutes will be added on at the end of an intriguing first-half.

44'

Fernandes is floored by Carlos inside the box - but the referee lets this one go, and VAR doesn't check it.

43'

Williams is down holding his face after receiving a nudge in the back from En-Nesyri. There wasn't much in it and again the referee keeps his card in his pocket. It's getting feisty.

41'

Maguire catches En-Nesyri accidentally while challenging for a header, sparking a reaction from Lopetegui on the sidelines. He wants a yellow card, which isn't forthcoming.

39'

Save! Rashford's shot is dipping and swerving in the air, making it difficult for Bounou. He manages to push it away, though.

38'

Banega is fortunate not to receive a booking for a studs-up tackle on Pogba, as United win a free-kick from 35 yards out.

37'

Fernandes plays a nice little through ball into Martial, but his first touch lets him down. Greenwood gets in on the act but the wonderkid is closed down inside a packed Sevilla penalty area.

-
33'

Just over! United work a nice move and they ought to equalise, really. Pogba flashes a pass to Martial who, from the edge of the penalty area, tries to curl it first time into the top corner. He gets too much on it though as the ball rises agonisingly over the crossbar.

31'

Reguilon is causing havoc down the left flank from full-back. He has been linked with a move to the Premier League and is certainly doing his chances absolutely no harm here.

30'

Sevilla continue to control possession, just like they did against Wolves. United are sitting back, awaiting the moment to hit their opponents on the break.

-
27'

United incensed about the referee awarding a throw-in to Sevilla in the build-up, but their poor defending cannot be excused. And the finger of blame will be pointed at Williams who went missing at the far post.

  • Suso
GoalSusoSevilla FCGOAL! Sevilla 1-1 Man United (Suso): Suso, the former Liverpool man, restores parity to complete a wonderfully worked move. It stems from the left where the tireless Reguilon plays a pass and keeps on running. He gets it back from Ocampos and finds Suso at the back post where he squeezes it past De Gea with a lovely finish.

24'

Solskjaer has been animated on the touchline. Sevilla are dominating possession, as expected, but United have looked the more dangerous, creating the better chances so far.

-
21'

Rashford doesn't track Navas and the former City man finds space down the right after a nice pass by Jordan. The cross is blocked and when United try to break Carlos fouls Martial with the referee forced to his pocket once again.

-
19'

It's a very open game. United are proving dangerous on the counter-attack, as Greenwood drives forward to burst into the penalty box, but the referee brings it back for a foul on Reguilon.

17'

Yellow card! Williams takes out Jordan and the referee has no choice other than to produced the booking.

16'

Save! Wan-Bissaka switches off and De Gea is forced into his first save of the night, pushing behind Ocampos' effort at his near post for a Sevilla corner.

15'

Miss! Fred wins the ball for United with a nice tackle in midfield and suddenly United pour forward. The Brazilian is played through in space by Fernandes and with just the goalkeeper to beat he skews his shot wide!

-

Here is the moment United broke the deadlock...

13'

Sevilla have conceded for the first time in five games. It's the perfect start for United, obviously, but they have much work to do.

-
11'

No real appeals from Sevilla as Banega goes to ground under pressure from Maguire inside the box.

10'

Carlos also conceded the penalty against Wolves in the quarter-final last week. This time he has been punished.

  • Bruno Fernandes
Goal by penaltyBruno FernandesManchester UnitedGOAL! Sevilla 0-1 Man United (Fernandes, pen): A little jump from Fernandes in the run-up and he coolly steps up to bury the penalty into the roof of the net. It's his 12th goal of the season. What a start for United.

7'

PENALTY TO UNITED! Martial slips it through to Rashford who sees his shot brilliantly saved by Bounou but he's caught by Carlos in the process and the referee points to the spot!

4'

Sevilla make strides down the left, with the dangerous Reguilon advancing from full-back to win his side a corner.

2'

United start on the front-foot, with Fernandes driving from midfield before laying it off to Greenwood, who sees his shot blocked. Fernandes then has a pop but it's also charged down. United make nothing of their early corner.

KICK-OFF! The players take the knee in the ongoing fight against racism and then United get us underway.

19:58

Here come the players. Kick-off is next and it's LIVE!

19:50

TEN minutes until kick-off!

19:45

Solskjaer has been talking to BT Sport about dropping Romero. "It was difficult when Sergio played well and never let us down or himself down. David looked really good in training. He also made a few saves against Sevilla in the last tie. Sergio is disappointed but he's a tough professional."

19:40

It's a warm night in Cologne; can United keep their cool and claim their place in the final of the competition they last won in 2017 under Jose Mourinho?

19:35

Romero isn't happy...

19:32

Alex Netherton writes: "Solskjaer’s first eleven, when on form and injury-free, would surely have the beating of Sevilla, but he does not have that. He has a group of players who have struggled through the return of football after coronavirus with an abridged pre-season, and with the same players who played the majority of every single match." Check out the full article below.

19:27

It's quite the record...

19:24

It's safe to say tonight is a big one for De Gea. He is clearly lacking confidence, as shown by his FA Cup semi-final performance against Chelsea. Romero has done nothing wrong to be dropped, so is it the right call from Solskjaer? Paul Scholes, on BT Sport, believes it is. "Ole thinks De Gea is their best keeper. I'm glad he's done it," he said.

19:19

Julen Lopetegui, Sevilla boss: "[United haven't] lost a Premier League game since January, so they're obviously a top team with great strength, but they are the semi-finals of the Europa League, and the only thing that will help us through any difficulty or situation that we come across at this high level is ambition, excitement and the desire to compete, with the aim of overcoming a great opponent."

19:10

Both sides are much changed from the last time they met in European competition. De Gea and Marcus Rashford are the only survivors for United; Banega is the sole survivor for Sevilla.

19:06

Sevilla, meanwhile, are unchanged from the side that edged past Wolves in the quarter-final. Ever Banega, of course, is their star man and will look to dictate the tempo in midfield.

19:05

Solskjaer makes two changes to the United team that started in the victory over Copenhagen. David De Gea is given the nod with the normal cup goalkeeper Sergio Romero having to settle with a place on the bench. Victor Lindelof comes in for Eric Bailly.
