Dele Alli overhead-kick, Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale goals see Tottenham cruise in Europa League

Dele Alli netted a spectacular overhead-kick and set up two more as Tottenham thrashed Austrian side RZ Pellets 4-0 to ease into the Europa League last 16 with an 8-1 aggregate win.

The out-of-favour Alli would have wanted to remind Jose Mourinho of his qualities and the execution of a bicycle kick after receiving a pass from Matt Doherty on the edge of the box was the type of goal not many players can produce.

In the second half, Alli picked out Carlos Vinicius, who headed home at the far post, and then played in Gareth Bale, on as a substitute, who slotted into the top corner with ridiculous ease.

Vincius then netted his second after fine hustling from 16-year-old substitute Dane Scarlett.

With Bale not in the starting line-up, presumably with a mind to starting him against Burnley at the weekend, how Alli performed became the most interesting element ahead of this already-decided cup tie.

He couldn’t have done more. He could even have had another assist if Vinicius had read an impressive ball played with the outside of his right foot behind the RZ Pellets defence.

The passes for Vinicius and Bale’s goals were perfect and of course the overhead-kick will be in any highlight reel at the end of his career.

Even in the move before the goal, his clever ball around the corner for Erik Lamela to run at the RZ Pellets defence was the type of pass that used to be commonplace from him two years or so ago.

Which all makes one wonder...

Bale’s goal in the first leg seemed to be the catalyst to belatedly kick-starting his return to Tottenham’s first XI and the way he finished tonight expectations will be understandably be sky high for the Welshman in the last three months of the season.

Alli is a more difficult case. While Bale can easily slide into the right hand side of the forward line and augment Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min without disturbing Mourinho's tactical outlook, it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to bring Alli in to play behind Kane.

Mourinho was full of praise for Alli after the game, especially with his overall performance, but much might depend on whether the former MK Dons playmaker can adapt his game the way Joe Cole did at Chelsea (at a younger age admittedly) to take care of the ball and take less chances far away from goal.

The time of Alli struggling to find a regular place on Tottenham's bench is surely over now though and he must be given chances alongside the first string before the end of the season.

11’ GOAL! And what a goal from Dele Alli. The ball sat up nicely for him when he controlled a square ball from Doherty and he launched himself into an overhead kick that beat the RZ Pellets keeper into the corner of the net.

73’ GOAL FOR SPURS! Finished with panache by Bale. Alli again was the creator. He played it perfectly into his path but though scoring from that position was not difficult, Bale's method of doing so with a first-time curler into the top corner showed what frame of mind he is in now.

84’ GOAL FOR SPURS! Scarlett wins the ball off Henriksson on the edge of the Pellets penalty area and Vincius blasted home Tottenham's fourth.
