Don't underestimate how much this means to Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid have inflicted a lot of pain on their city rivals in European finals over the years and this was a chance to get some revenge, even if the European Super Cup doesn't quite match up to the Champions League. Atleti were the better of the two teams and they deserve this win.

- End of E.T 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Real Madrid 2-4 Atletico Madrid. ATLETICO MADRID HAVE WON THE 2018 EUROPEAN SUPER CUP!
Just one minute of stoppage time to be played at the end of extra time.
Vitolo seems to be limping late on in the game. Atletico Madrid are out of subs, but the midfielder should be fine to continue. There's only a few minutes left until the full time whistle.
Is this a sign of bigger things to come for Atletico Madrid this season? They have had an excellent summer and this performance suggests that they can compete with the big boys.
Time is running out for Real Madrid. Modric gets a shot away on goal from the edge of the Atletico Madrid penalty box, but Oblak gets his body behind the effort and makes the save.
This game is slipping away from Real Madrid. They don't look to have the fight left in them. Atletico Madrid have been too good in this period of extra time. They deserve this win.
- Yellow cardSergio RamosReal Madrid
Ramos gets his customary yellow card for a foul on Saul.
VITOLO COULD HAVE GONE DOWN! What a rash challenge that was from Carvajal. He swiped at Vitolo, who chose to try and stay on his feet. That could have been a penalty kick.
The pressure will be on Lopetegui right from the start after this result. However, he should look at how Barcelona bounced back from losing the Spanish Supercopa last season.
- OffDiego CostaAtlético Madrid
- OnJosé María GiménezAtlético Madrid
Costa gets a standing ovation and Atletico Madrid are now going to close this game up.
Is there any way back for Real Madrid in this game? They look tired now and Atletico Madrid look more likely to score the next goal than the reigning European champions.
- E.T 2nd Half
The second half in extra time is under way! Real Madrid have a lot of work to do to save this game.
- End of E.T 1st Half
HALF TIME IN ET: Real Madrid 2-4 Atletico Madrid
- GoalKokeAtlético Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 Atletico Madrid 4 (104 mins - Koke). That might be the game! Costa bullies Carvajal, passes to Vitolo who finds Koke. The Atletico Madrid midfielder steers the finish into the far corner of the Real Madrid net. That was an excellent finish!
- OffToni KroosReal Madrid
- OnBorja MayoralReal Madrid
Real Madrid need a goal here and so Lopetegui has thrown on Mayoral to get that goal.
- Yellow cardLuka ModricReal Madrid
Modric is shown a yellow card for an elbow, but that didn't look to be intentional from the Croatian midfielder.
Well, you can count on Saul to come up with the goods in the big games. What a goal that was from the Atletico Madrid midfielder. He struck it so flush on the full volley. No chance for Navas.
- GoalSaúlAtlético Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 Atletico Madrid 3 (98 mins - Saul Niguez). That's a rocket! What a magnificent goal from Saul! He loves a wonderstrike! Varane gets caught, Partey flips a cross back into the box and Saul smashes a strike into the back of the net on the full volley.
Modric has started to control this game in extra time. When you see him like this, there's just no way that Real Madrid will let him leave in the same summer that Ronaldo has left the club.
CARVAJAL STRIKE! The ball fell nicely for the Real Madrid right back to strike on the full volley, but despite the dip right at the end, Oblak has no trouble in making the comfortable save.
The two sides looked very tired towards the end of the 90 minutes, so you have to wonder whether we will see the quality of the match carried into this period of extra time?
Both managers have an additional change for the extra time period. Does that mean we could see Vinicius Junior for Real Madrid? So many are desperate to see the Brazilian.
- E.T 1st Half
The first half of extra time in Tallinn is under way! It's 2-2 between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Real Madrid 2-2 Atletico Madrid. We're going to extra time. Which is something no team wanted.
- Yellow cardDani CeballosReal Madrid
Now Ceballos enters the book for a late tackle on Correa. The Atletico Madrid man made the most of that!
- OffThomas LemarAtlético Madrid
- OnThomas ParteyAtlético Madrid
It's one Thomas on for another.
It just wouldn't open up for Costa! Correa played the ball to the Atleti striker, who cut inside and cut inside, but he just couldn't get the shot away on goal and Real snuff it out.
Both teams look very tired now. The standard of the game has been pretty high, but this is a lot to ask from these players this early in the season. We're going into extra time too!
Only a few minutes left to prevent this game from heading to extra time. Surely UEFA should change the format of this match to go straight to penalty kicks at this stage of the season?
This has got quite scrappy all of a sudden and that will suit Atletico Madrid. They have dragged Real Madrid down to their level in the last 10 minutes or so. They are so good at that.
- OffIscoReal Madrid
- OnLucas VázquezReal Madrid
Vazquez comes on. He was a favourite of Zidane's. He has to earn the trust of Lopetegui this season.
Costa is everywhere. He's already on a booking, but he's throwing himself into tackles all over the place. He has been the main man for Atletico Madrid this evening. Irrepressible.
This has been quite the game. Just as it looked like Real Madrid were taking a strangehold of the match, Atletico Madrid equalised. We're 10 minutes away from extra time.
- GoalDiego CostaAtlético Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 Atletico Madrid 2 (79 mins - Diego Costa). Real Madrid don't clear their lines, and it costs them. Juanfran passes to Correa, who crosses for Costa to slam home from close range. Another typical finish from the Atletico Madrid forward! We're level!
It's not just Ronaldo who has left Real Madrid this summer, with Kovacic also leaving on loan to join Chelsea. In theory, that should mean more game time for Ceballos this season.
- OffCasemiroReal Madrid
- OnDani CeballosReal Madrid
On comes Ceballos for the final 13 minutes of this game. This will be a big season for the midfielder.
Lemar has been much more effective since moving into the centre of the pitch. The Frenchman had been a peripheral figure out on the wings. Atleti need some magic from him.
FINAL BALL LACKING! Nice play from Atletico Madrid around the box to get Costa to the byline, but there was nobody in the middle to get on the end of his cross and Navas gathers.
Some expert analysis of the save, or non save, from Navas for Costa's opening goal. Courtois is watching...
- OffRodriAtlético Madrid
- OnVitoloAtlético Madrid
Another change for Atletico Madrid, with Vitolo coming on to replace Rodri.
Was that going in?! That was an excellent effort from Varane, who met a low cross first time inside the box. But Koke was on hand to make the clearing header before it could reach the goal.
Bale drives and drives at the Atletico Madrid defence from deep, beating one, beating two, beating three and then winning the corner for his team. Great play from the winger.
Good play from Varane. Correa was looking for the run of Costa in behind the Real Madrid backline, but the Frenchman stepped out and made the interception before passing it on.
Atletico Madrid have probably been the better of the two sides in this second half, but they find themselves trailing and there is a sense that Real Madrid are starting to take a grip of things.
CLASH! Costa and Ramos are at each other again. This time it's Costa who knees the Real Madrid captain in the back of the head as they challenge for the same ball. Some argy bargy.
- Yellow cardDiego CostaAtlético Madrid
Costa was shown a yellow card for protesting the award of the penalty kick. Replays show that it was the correct decision from the referee.
- Goal by penaltySergio RamosReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 (63 mins - Sergio Ramos) Atletico Madrid 1. It's Ramos who steps up to the penalty spot and converts, sending Oblak the wrong way. That was calm from the Real Madrid captain, who celebrates with a Conor McGregor-esque swagger. He knew he'd score that.
PENALTY KICK TO REAL MADRID! The referee points to the spot after a handball by Juanfran.
- Yellow cardÁngel CorreaAtlético Madrid
Now it's Correa who enters the book for Atletico Madrid. The cards are racking up.
It was quite clear in the performance of Griezmann that he is not quite fully fit after the World Cup. The Frenchman was well below his usual standard. He will get better in the coming weeks.
- OffAntoine GriezmannAtlético Madrid
- OnÁngel CorreaAtlético Madrid
A change for Atletico Madrid as well, with Griezmann coming off to be replaced by Correa.
- OffMarco AsensioReal Madrid
- OnLuka ModricReal Madrid
Here comes Modric and it's actually Asensio who comes off to be replaced by the Croatian.
It should be noted that Courtois isn't in the Real Madrid squad for this game tonight. The Belgian hasn't trained all that much since the World Cup. He'll be involved in the weeks to come.
It's interesting that there have already been some claims that Courtois would have saved the shot that led to Costa's opening goal. The pressure is already on Navas.
- Yellow cardMarceloReal Madrid
Marcelo enters the book for a late challenge on Juanfran. Was there much in that?
It looks like Real Madrid are going to make a change and it's Modric who is going to come on for the European champions. The Croatian will come on for... Kroos maybe?
Real Madrid's pressing game has been very impressive, especially for this early in the season. Lopetegui clearly wants his team to regain possession as quick as possible when they don't have it.
Lemar, much like the rest of the Atletico Madrid team, started this game, but has since fallen out of the contest. The Frenchman is being bypassed in the midfield area.
Benzema believes that he should have been awarded a freekick for what he viewed to be a foul from Juanfran. The referee didn't see it that way and Atletico Madrid are given the throw in.
Atletico Madrid started well in the first half, but faded over time. They need some of their big players to do more. Griezmann, for instance, has seen very little of the ball. Very unproductive.
Neither team has made a change at the break. Both managers have options on the bench. Will we see Vinicius Junior in the second half for Real Madrid? There's a buzz around him.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's 1-1 between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
What did you make of the first half from Tallinn? Have Atletico Madrid been the better of the two teams? Does Lopetegui need to make any changes at the break? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid. Costa's early goal gave Atleti the perfect start, but Real Madrid have got better as the game has progressed and Benzema's goal got them back on level terms.
Simeone needs to get his players in for half time. They started really well, but have allowed Real Madrid back into it. They need to tweak their game plan for the second period.
Rodri should have done better there. Costa was making an excellent run down the right side, with the striker almost unmarked. But Rodri delayed with the pass and the tackle was made.
Benzema needs a big season. Real Madrid somehow need to replace the goals that left their team when Ronaldo signed for Juventus. That will put a lot of pressure on the French striker.
This has actually been a very entertaining first half. These games can sometimes feel like glorified pre-season fixtures, but make no mistake, both these teams want to win this.
- Yellow cardMarco AsensioReal Madrid
The first yellow card of the match is shown to Asensio for stopping an Atletico Madrid counter attack.
WASTED OPPORTUNITY! That was a real chance for Real Madrid. They had a two-on-one, with Bale finding Isco. However, the playmaker cut inside and allowed the tackle to be made.
Griezmann has been rather quiet for Atletico Madrid in this first half. Costa has been the main man for Atleti, but his strike partner hasn't seen much of the ball. They need to get him involved.
Bale has Lucas on toast out on the right wing. The Frenchman might be a World Cup winner, but Bale is giving him an evening to forget. He has the beating of him every single time!
All of a sudden the dynamic of this game has changed. Real Madrid are the ones on top and they are pressing for a second goal to put them ahead. They are getting better and better in this first half.
JUST WIDE! It just didn't curl enough! Asensio drove at the Atletico defence, cutting inside to bend a shot towards the far corner. But it flashes just wide of the far post. Man, that was close!
Well, we have a game on our hands. That cross from Bale was something special. The header from Benzema wasn't bad either, but the Welshman was the one who created that goal.
- GoalKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (27 mins - Karim Benzema) Atletico Madrid 1. An equaliser for Real Madrid! Benzema gets the goal, but it was all about Bale. He surged down the right wing, whipped a wicked cross to the back post for his teammate to head back across goal and into the net!
MARCELO STRIKE FROM DISTANCE! Lemar allows Marcelo to cut inside off the left wing and on to his right foot, but the Brazilian lashes his shot over the crossbar of Oblak.
Atletico Madrid look to be the team that wants to win this game more. That isn't surprising given the competitive spirit that Simeone fosters within the Atleti dressing room.
There's a lot of pressure on Asensio to produce for Real Madrid this season. With Ronaldo now gone, he will be expected to step up and fulfil the promise he so clearly has.
This has been a very impressive start from Atletico Madrid. They have controlled large parts of the game and even when Real Madrid have had the ball, they look solid at the back.
That's a rough tackle from Lucas on Bale. The French defender went in hard on the Welsh winger. Bale is on the ground, but he should be okay once he shakes his legs out.
Marcelo is another player who is linked with an exit from Real Madrid this summer. Juventus want to sign the Brazilian left back to link him up with former teammate Ronaldo in Turin.
BIG SAVE FROM OBLAK! That was close to an equaliser from Real Madrid. Marcelo got to the byline and lashed a pass across the face of goal. Isco's flick forced Oblak into a low save!
Of course, one of the big storylines for Atletico Madrid over the summer concerned the future of Griezmann, who dragged out his decision to stay at the club amid interest from Barcelona.
Lemar is already doing a good job of tracking back. That's the Simeone influence there. The Frenchman will be a key figure for Atletico Madrid this season. His signing is a big deal.
Godin chests a cross back to Oblak. Both these players were subject to bids from Premier League clubs, but both decided to stay with Atletico Madrid rather than move on.
Real Madrid are now starting to take a grip of things. However, they aren't making much progress in getting in behind the Atletico Madrid defence, who look well-drilled as they always do.
The TV cameras show Simeone high in the stands. He's serving a touchline ban, because when is he not serving a touchline ban? He'll be happy with what he has seen so far.
Modric isn't in the starting lineup for Real Madrid this evening. He's on the subs bench. There is still plenty of speculation around his future, with Inter Milan interested. Will he be another to leave?
Costa has started this game in full Costa mode. He is a battering ram of a centre forward and not even Ramos seems capable of dealing with him at the moment. What a player.
Benzema is in the Real Madrid team tonight. Many expected that he would leave Real Madrid this summer, but after the exit of Ronaldo they felt they couldn't allow the Frenchman to leave either.
This perhaps illustrates what Simeone wants from his Atletico Madrid team this season. Their summer signings should allow them to control games more than they have previously.
Atleti have started this match well. Real Madrid have yet to get going at all. They are the ones camped inside their own half. They can't get out at the moment. Very impressive from the Europa League winners.
The Real Madrid defence was caught cold there. Costa certainly wasn't. He created that chance for himself and made no mistake from a very tight angle. What a goal by the big man.
- GoalDiego CostaAtlético Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 0 Atletico Madrid 1 (1 min - Diego Costa). What a start! What a goal by Costa! Atletico Madrid have the lead within the opening minute. Costa wins a header, powers past Varane and from a tight angle smashes home a finish. That is Costa all over! Wonderful!
- 1st Half
The match is under way in Estonia! It's Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid in the European Super Cup.
Kick off is just minutes away. As far as Super Cup matches go, this should be pretty good.
They have turned up the tunes for the start of the game. They're playing the kind of song they play before World Cup games. You know the kind? Nobody would ever actually listen to this on their commute.
The two teams are now walking out on to the pitch in Tallinn. A few moments ago there were Estonian dancers performing to the Black Eyed Peas. What a time.
Asensio is in the Real Madrid team for tonight. The Spaniard is something of a Super Cup specialist. He has scored three goals in four games between the European and Spanish ones.
This man has a huge chance this season. With Ronaldo off to Juventus, Bale is the main man at Real Madrid. Lopetegui has placed his faith in the Welsh winger. He starts tonight.
Challengers? Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, have managed to keep all of their best players while adding the likes of Lemar and Martins. Will they be the real deal this season?
Chaotic summer! Of course, a lot has happened at Real Madrid this summer. Ronaldo is a Juventus player, Zidane resigned at the end of the season and now Lopetegui is their manager. Yikes!
Diego Godin, Atletico Madrid player and seal...
