Off the line! Preston have a corner deep into added time and Laird flicks it towards goal. De Gea gets a hand to it but it has to be thrashed off the line by Young.

UNITED HAVE A PENALTY! Rooney runs into the box and Stuckmann races across to meet it but the striker is there first and is taken out. He's heading away from goal, so it's only a yellow.

Robinson has the chance to run at Rojo, but the United defender is relieved when the Preston man decides instead to shoot from range, sending the ball straight into the arms of de Gea.

Chance for Preston! Smalling panics and fails to clear, and Reid steps onto it and drags his shot just wide of the post.

Fellaini looks pretty good up front...

Fellaini has another chance. He holds off two Preston defenders in the box but his shot is well saved.

Preston make all three of their changes in one go, Callum Robinson, Kyel Reid and Scott Wiseman coming on for Davies, Kilkenny and Wright.

For a moment it looks like Di Maria is through in space on the right but Stuckmann is lightning quick off his line to clear the danger.

The mood has completely changed inside Deepdale.

GOAL! United take the lead! Valencia floats the ball towards Fellaini at the back post and although his header comes back off the keeper, he's on hand to lash the rebound into the top corner. 2-1

Thinnest of thin ice now for Davies, who's already on a yellow card. He comes in late on Smalling this time and he knows he's in trouble. Phil Dowd takes pity, but makes it clear that that's his last chance.

Gallagher, whose delivery has been bang-on all night, takes the free-kick and sends it just high of the top corner.

Rojo in turn is booked as Garner twists, turns and leaves him for dead. Free-kick for Preston now.

Kilkenny goes into the book for an overly-zealous challenge and United have a free-kick on the left.

Big question: should the goal have standed? Rooney was in an offside position but didn't touch the ball. Was he, though, obstructing Stuckmann's line of sight? The Preston keeper certainly thinks so - he's furious. This one might rumble on as the replays flood in.
