Portugal went ahead when Cristiano Ronaldo's excellent work down the right wing set up Ricardo Quaresma, which was cancelled out by Javier Hernandez's smart header at the near post.
In the second half, Mexico and Portugal both looked increasingly heavy-legged, with no notable chances created for either side until the death. Both play again on Wednesday, and will need to tighten up at the back if they are to progress into the knockout rounds.
With a few minutes remaining, Cedric blasted a shot from a tight angle that squeezed past the 'keeper, but Moreno's late header rescued a point with only a minute remaining.

Ricardo Quaresma (Portugal): At 33, he is playing some of the best football of his life. He scored the goal, which was largely down to Ronaldo, but his cool head made the chance exceptionally easy. He, along with Nani and Ronaldo, are coming towards the last years of their career and it is hard to see how Portugal will adequately replace them after the 2018 World Cup.
