Mourinho was sacked in December by United and replacemed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has won six consecutive Premier League games, seven in all competitions.
Mourinho has was rumoured to be in the market for a central defender and winger in his final two seasons at the club, but instead was given Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant in his last transfer window.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Mourinho suggested a hypothtical manager was cut short during his career.

The Portuguese manager said: “Speaking hypothetically as a manger sometimes you do the first phase, then the second phase.
“Sometimes when you think you are preparing a solid future, sometimes you are not preparing anything because you are out.
“If you are speaking about the football itself, for me it is more complicated because as manager I don’t only focus on the football itself.
“I need to focus on what needs to be prepared also for the future. And I think the future needs to start to be prepared with principles. For me that is more important than the football you watch that you bring principles. It is a little bit more complex."

He then raised the backing that Guardiola received, saying: “You have for example the case of Manchester City . In the first season Guardiola was not champion and it was really difficult.
“People were expecting a winning Manchester City. They were champions with Mancini. they were champions with Pellegrini. Some of the players there were already champions twice like the Agueros and the Kompanys - lots of them.
“And in the second season, Pep made great decision but great decisions that were supported.
“I give you as an example he didn’t want [Pablo] Zabaleta and he didn’t want [Bacary] Sagna at right-back. And he didn’t want [Alexander] Kolorov and he didn’t want [Gael] Clichy.
“In the same summer he sold four full-backs and got four full-backs. He got [Kyle] Walker, Danilo, [Bernard] Mendy and, I think it was, [Fabian] Delph. He was supported."

Mourinho also suggested Klopp was given plenty of backing at Liverpool. He told the channel:
“You see it today with Liverpool. How many of these players were at Liverpool before Jurgen [Klopp] arrived?
“No Alisson. No Van Dijk. No Robertson. No Salah. No Mane. No Fabinho. No Keita. This is work in depth.
“It’s not just the leadership at a club or just the football you need. It’s everything.
“If you are a manager that you have the possibility to choose the players who you want to follow your football idea.
“Or it is [to get the players] to follow the idea that you think is best to win a certain competition, that’s one thing.
“Another thing is if you are not able to do that.”
