UEFA has invited it various stakeholders to a video call next Tuesday to discuss the implications of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, it said in a statement on Thursday.

It had been widely reported early on Thursday that the European governing body was set to suspend the Europa and Champions League imminently, after a number of teams – including Juventus and Real Madrid – were put in quarantine.

However, in a statement UEFA said it would discuss the implications of the pandemic on its competitions – including Euro 2020 – during a video call on March 17.

“In the light of ongoing developments in the spread of Covid-19, UEFA has invited various stakeholders to discuss European football’s response to the outbreak,” began the statement.

“Association and the European Leagues and a representative of FIFPro, to attend meetings by video conference on Tuesday 17 March to discuss European football’s response to the outbreak.

Discussions will include all domestic and European competitions, including UEFA EURO 2020.

With both Juventus and Madrid under protective quarantine, their respective Champions League last-16 fixtures against Lyon and Manchester City would have to be postponed at the very least.
