Five-star Liverpool run riot in Napoli win

Liverpool geared up for the new season with a thumping 5-0 win over Italian side Napoli.

Alisson Becker made his debut after his big-money move from Roma in the summer, having returned from World Cup duty with Brazil.

Liverpool took the lead on four minutes with a smart shot from James Milner before Georginio Wijnaldum put them two up shortly after.

In the second half, Mohamed Salah continued his comeback from Russia with a goal to settle the game, but Napoli seemed content to just have a run out with longer to prepare for the start of their season.

With both sides throwing on substitutes in the second half, the game lost its rhythm, but Liverpool’s superiority was unmistakable before Sturridge added a fourth and Alberto Moreno a fifth with a vicious strike.

Liverpool look ready for the start of the season. It was only a friendly, but Jurgen Klopp’s side look primed for their first match already. Naby Keita looks settled already, and Alisson is an imposing keeper. If they add another player to the first team then they can challenge Manchester City for the title.

Mo Salah (Liverpool): Making his way back from the World Cup and injury, he looks back to full fitness. He is direct, pacy and aggressive. Liverpool look like they could be carried to the title by him alone if he maintains his form.

4’ - GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Roma. Milner scores - Mane is slipped in with a run into the six-yard box, he spins backwards and picks out Milner in the box, who slices it into the top corner.

8’ - MANE CHANCE! Salah stabs a first-time pass to Mane in the box, but he shoots at goal with his right foot and finds his effort blocked.

11’ - GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Napoli. Wijnaldum scores - From the left, Milner has minutes to line up a cross. He clips in an effort to the near post that Wijnaldum races towards and beats the 'keeper, heading into the net.

58’ - GOAL! Liverpool 3-0 Napoli. Salah scores - A lofted ball to Salah, who heads the bal back across goal. Mane then shoves over Albiol who is racing to the ball, forcing him to play the ball back to Salah who curls it into the back post.

73’ - GOAL! Liverpool 4-0 Napoli. Sturridge scores - Shaqiri lofts a pass out wide for Origi to shoot. He hits the 'keeper, who palms it straight back out for Sturridge to stroke home.

78’ - GOAL! Liverpool 5-0 Napoli. Moreno scores - Moreno is picked out by Sturridge with an excellent crossfield pass, he takes a touch to his left, and smacks a shot into the near top corner.
