The 19-year-old left The Emirates in January after failing to gain a foothold in the first-team squad and became the first Englishman to play for Barcelona in 29 years, after Gary Lineker.
And he even helped pick up some silverware on his first outing, when he came on as a substitute during the penalty shootout victory over Espanyol in the Spanish Super Cup victory.
And now the midfielder has revealed his complete lack of encounters with Wenger, despite being at Arsenal since he was six. “I didn't have any conversations with him,” he told the Daily Mail.
I thought if I kept working hard, I would get opportunities. It didn't come.
“There's no grudge but I felt the best thing was to find another way.
“If you want to be at a place to develop and get first-team football, maybe you have to look elsewhere than Arsenal.”
And now, after featuring four times for Barcelona B and making his first-team bow, McGuane is hungry for more.
“People tell me I am the first since Lineker,” he added.
“It's a massive achievement but I want to be a first-teamer and will do everything to get there.”
