The excellent Christian Pulisic scored twice as Borussia Dortmund came from a goal down to beat Liverpool in the International Champions Cup in North Carolina on Sunday.
Virgil van Dijk had given the Reds a first-half lead with a powerful header from a corner.
Liverpool, without their World Cup stars, spurned several opportunities to double their advantage and they were left to rue those missed chances.
Pulisic, who has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield in recent days, brought Dortmund level from the penalty spot in the second-half.
And he gave his team the lead when he smartly finished off a late counter-attack with Jacob Bruun Larsen tucking home to make it three.
Despite the loss Jurgen Klopp will have been impressed by his new signings Fabinho and Naby Keita in midfield, while Daniel Sturridge produced another energetic performance.
It was another match to forget for Loris Karius though, as the German looked nervy throughout and was at fault for Dortmund's third.
Liverpool continue their pre-season tour of the US with a match with Manchester City on Thursday morning.
