Jesse Lingard scored his first England goal to give his team a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in a World Cup warm-up match at the Amsterdam ArenA.
England started Jordan Pickford in goal, with Joe Gomez also getting a chance to impress, however the Liverpool defender was replaced due to injury by Harry Maguire, after just 10 minutes.
The Netherlands were able to call on Memphis and Georginio Wijnaldum, but otherwise it was a new-look side for their new manager Ronald Koeman.
England went close in the first half without really threatening, and the Dutch were kept to long balls.
In the second half, England should have had a penalty when De Ligt tripped Marcus Rashford in the box. Then, in the 59th minute, Lingard popped up to score his first England goal, ending a 300-minute drought for the England team.

Gareth Southgate made four more changes in the second half, preparing for next Tuesday's friendly against Italy.

TALKING POINT

Are England... good? The short answer is probably not. The longer answer is that they look unusually competent. They had players who could not only pass the ball, but also receive it without breaking into cold sweats. This could all change as soon as the pressure turns up in Russia, but it's a huge change from tedious, direct and unimaginative play that most England supporters have grown used to.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Jesse Lingard (England): J-Lingz keeps up his impressive recent form. He might not do anything incredible on the pitch for most of the match, but his ability to turn up in the box and score goals is now a regular occurrence. Given England struggle for goals in most matches, it would be foolish to keep him out of the team, at least while Harry Kane is injured.

KEY EVENTS

8' - OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN SHOT - Oxlade-Chamberlain tees up a shot from the right of the box after a forceful run, but a well-struck shot goes straight at the 'keeper.

22' - PICKFORD SAVE - De Ligt gets ahead of Rashford, drives forward from deep and sends a long-range shot at goal that Pickford dives to his right to save.
32' - RASHFORD CHANCE - Henderson meets Walker's free kick, he glances a header at the near post, but it drifts just wide with Rashford closing in.
51' - PENALTY APPEAL - Rashford runs onto a ball just inside, the box, De Ligt trips him with a lunge, and he should have been given a penalty there. Rashford anticipated the trip, used it, and was denied by refereeing incompetence.
