90+5'

IT'S OVER!

There were some admirable performances, but ultimately this stalemate friendly won't live long in the memory.

Croatia will be frustrated that they didn't get revenge for their Euro 2016 exit, but they will now prepare for their Nations League visit to Spain next Tuesday.

90+2'

Oliveira has a go from arouns 30 yards, but his 35-yard knuckleball sails over the bar.

89'

SUB: Andre Silva is off, Gedson Fernandes is on.

86'

SUB: Neves makes way for Renato Sanches, who gets a huge cheer from the home crowd.

86'

Mitrovic concedes a corner to Andre Silva. It falls to Ruben Neves around 30 yards out and the Wolves man puts it in Row Z too.

85'

CHANCE!

Cancelo delivers a low ball from the right to Andre Silva's feet, but he scuffs it into the stands.

That wasn't as bad as his earlier shot that nearly hit the corner flag, but he should have done better.

82'

SUB: Carvalho makes way for Sergio Oliveira.

81'

There's a Mexican wavw going around the stadium.

The fans have to entertain themselves somehow...

79'

That's by far the most exciting action we've seen in this second half.

78'

CHANCE!

Rui puts in a low cross from the left and Milic gets a foot on it... his attempted interception hits the post!

Portugal were inches from going ahead via an own goal!

75'

Kovacic takes a short corner then swings the ball to the back post. The danger is cleared by Rui.

73'

SUB: Pjaca is replaced by Marko Rog.

71'

Andre Silva steals the ball near the centre spot and charges forward. It's the most promising looking attack of the half, but Mitrovic disposseses him on the edge of the box.

68'

SUB: Bruma leaves the field and Monaco's Rony Lopes comes on.

68'

There's not been much to write home about in this half, folks.

68'

Bruma sets Andre Silva on his way on the left flank, but Croatia absorb the pressure and the play moves back to the halfway line.

65'

It's been a lower tempo with fewer chances in this half. The sheer amount of substitutions may be affecting the flow of the game.

63'

SUB: Perisic hands the armband to Badelj as he is replaced by Duje Cop.

62'

SUB: Pizzi makes way for Bruno Fernandes.

Pizzi played very well tonight.

56'

Pizzi picks out Bruma with a delightful ball over the top into the box, but the Leipzig forward was marginally off again.

56'

SUB: Modric hands the captaion's armband to Perisic as he is replaced by Atalanta's Mario Pasalic.

56'

Brumna and Cancelo work some nice passes on the right, but the former is flagged.

Cancelo has been excellent today.

52'

Subs: Gelson Martins replaces Bernardo, and Antonio Milic comes on for Vrsaljko.

47'

Modric finds Perisic but his powerful header goes straight into the 'keeper's gloves!

46'

THE SECOND HALF IS GO!

Croatia kick off and win a corner almost immediately. Modric takes it and Pepe sends it out for another.

45+3'

HALF TIME

It's honours even in the Algarve, in a much more interesting match than their last meeting at Euro 2016. Portugal are probably the better team but there's plenty of threat from the visitors.

45+2'

Andre Silva receives the ball from Bruma with time and space on the edge of the area... and proceeds to hit one of the worst shots you're ever likely to see. It was closer to the corner flag.

43'

The free kick is played low to Neves, who sees his shot headed out for a corner.

Portugal are ending this half strongly.

42'

Kovacic is booked for dissent. Apparently he was not happy with a foul on Bernardo. Portugal have a free kick around 35 yards from goal.

40'

This time, Mario Rui takes it and it deflects off the wall for a corner.

39'

Vrsaljko brings down Bruma on the edge of the area - another prime free kick goalscoring opportunity...

36'

Pepe has three goals in his last four games!

36'
34'

Vida tried to carry on but is now being stretchered off.

Tin Jedvaj is coming on in his place.

34'

Pizzi sent in a curling cross from the right and Pepe rose above the pack to nod it into the bottom-right corner.

They deserve the equaliser.

32'

GOAL!

Portugal are level! A Pepe header!

32'

Bernardo dances through the defence and reels off a left-footed shot, which is put out for a corner.

Although they are behind, Portugal have looked to be the better side.

30'

Perisic is booked for yanking down Bernardo from behind. An easy decision.

30'

Croatia counter with Perisic down the left. He tries to pick out Pjaca in space in the box but the cross isn't quite accurate enough.

27'

Kalinic comes out of his area to clear a threat from Andre Silva, but Vida slides in and clashes with both the Portuguese forward and his goalkeeper. Vida looks to be in pain.

21'

There's a short break as the Croatian net is fixed. It seems Cancelo's shot was so hard that it slightly broke it.

21'

CHANCE!

Cancelo, who has been pushing up a lot tonight, collects the ball with his chest on the right side of the box and volleys into the side netting.

A good response from the Portuguese.

20'

That was a quality finish from Perisic, but the move started with a sloppy giveaway from Neves.

18'

GOAL!

Neves gives up possession around 40 yards from goal and Kovacic charges into the box. His pass deflects off of Pepe and Perisic buries the ball past Patricio with a powerful volley!

16'

CHANCE!

Badelj brings Bruma down on the edge of the area for a free kick. Ruben Neves sends it narrowly wide of the top left corner!

That's a situation where Cristiano would have been useful.

13'

Perisic tries to get past Pepe on the left of the box but concedes a free kick. When play resumes, Barnardo is schythed down from behind near the halfway line for another free kick.

11'

CHANCE!

Moments after Kovacic has a pop, Badelj has another attempt from 25 yards. The low shot flies narrowly wide of the left post!

10'

CHANCE!

Bruma makes an incisive run into the box and finds Bernardo in space on the right. The Man City man sees hit shot collected by Kalinic.

The Croat 'keeper is in fine form so far.

9'

Badelj has a speculatibe shot blocked from 20 yards.

It's been a low-tempo affair so far.

5'

Modric sends in a free kick from around 40 yards but Patricio comes to collect in the air.

5'

Portugal's 4-3-3 is looking more like a 4-1-4-1, with William Carvalho operating as the pivot.

4'

CHANCE!

Bernado Silva dances on the right flank and evades Pereisic to put in a cross. It falls to Brume, who sees Kalinic collect his slightly fumbled effort.

2'

Perisic delivers a low cross from the left but Livaja's touch is poor.

1'

AND WE'RE OFF!

Andre Silva takes the first touch.

19.43

Anthem time.

The 30,000-capacity Estadio Alrgave looks to be about two-thirds full. Maybe the rest of the fans are in the tunnel club or the fromagerie?

19.40

It's a beautiful evening in the Algarve - clear, sunny and 24C.

The players are now in the tunnel.

19.38

Santos, meanwhile, has had his say on the FIFA Best Award nominations.

You'll never guess who he nominates in first place...

19.34

There's a lot of new names on Fernando Santos' bench - he has given first call-ups to Tondela's Cláudio Ramos, Montpellier's Pedro Mendes, Benfica's Gedson Fernandes and Monaco's Rony Lopes.

19.29

The benches...

PORTUGAL: Claudio Ramos, Beto, Luis Neto, Pedro Mendes, Renato Sanches, Rony Lopes, Sergio Oliveira, Bruno Fernandes, Goncalo Guedes, Gelson Martins, Cedric Soares, Gedson Fernandes.

CROATIA: Dominik Livakovic, Karlo Letica, Antonio Millic, Duje Cop, Marcelo Brozovic, Filip Bradaric, Mario Pasalic, Tin Jedvaj, Ivan Santini, Marko Rog, Josip Pivaric.

19.20

It's going to be a 4-3-3 for Portugal. Bernardo Silva, who thrived in a No. 10 slot at the World Cup, has been placed on the left of the front three, with Andre Silva operating through the middle and RB Leipzig's Bruma on the right.

It's a 4-2-3-1 for Croatia, with Marko Livaja up front with support from Ivan Perisic - and his objectionable No. 4 shirt - on the left. Luka Modric, as you would expect is tasking on No. 10 duties.

19.14

There are worse places to be on a September evening than the Algarve...

19.10

The last time these two sides met was the Euro 2016 Round of 16, where an attritional match was put out of its misery with Ricardo Quaresma's 117th-minute winner.

Portugal have faced Coratia a total of six times - winning all of them by an aggregate score of 7-0.

19.05

Confusingly, this is not a UEFA Nations League match, but a regular ol' friendly.

Both teams are in the top "league" of the competition, but Portugal share a group with Italy and Poland, while the Croats are in with Spain and England.

Portugal debut on Monday against Italy in Lisbon, while Crostia will play Spain at Elche's Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on Tuesday.

18.59

PORTUGAL: Patrício, Cancelo, Pepe, Rúben Dias, Rui, Carvalho, Neves, Pizzi, B. Silva, Bruma, A.Silva /// CROATIA: Kalinic, Vrsaljko, Vida, Mitrovic, Barisic, Kovacic, Pjaca, Modric, Badelj, Perisic, Livaja.

18.56

And here's the confirmation of the suspect lineup from Croatia...

18.51

There's no confirmed team from the Croatian camp just yet, but here's the line-up many folks suspect they will land on: Kalinic; Vrsaljko, Vida, Mitrovic, Barisic, Badelj, Kovacic, Modric, Pjaca, Perisic, Livaja.

18.46

Here's how Portugal will line up. Cristiano Ronaldo is a notable absence - he is being rested for this match and the upcoming UEFA Nations League clash with Italy in order to focus on trying to score a goal with Juventus.
