Carlo Ancelotti has explained why he let Mesut Ozil join Arsenal from Real Madrid.
The Real boss said that he accepts Ozil is probably more talented than Angel Di Maria but that he preferred the personality of the Argentine winger to the German playmaker.
"I decided the departure of Ozil. I prefer Di Maria for the balance of the team," he said.
"It's true, that maybe Di Maria has less quality than Ozil but on a profile of dynamism, character and help to the team I preferred Di Maria.
"With the arrival of Bale it was better to have Di Maria than Ozil."
Arsenal signed Ozil from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day for £42.4million, a fee more than double their previous record amount.
Germany international Ozil has been in sparkling form for the north London outfit since then, helping them to the top of the Premier League.
