FT

It's all over and Spurs progress to the final four of the League Cup. Stoke have made them work for it though, with Mourinho's side needing goals from Davies and Kane in the final 20 minutes to make it safe.

91'

Spurs break in numbers and Son feeds Kane, but this time the combination doesn’t result in a goal as the shot is blocked on the edge of the box.

90'

The game drifts into added time and Spurs are just three minutes away from securing a spot in the League Cup semi-finals.

86'

Steven Fletcher gets his head onto a ball into the box, but he can’t quite get direction on his effort and the ball drifts wide. He probably should have done better with that and Stoke need to be taking those sort of chances if they have any hope of a dramatic late comeback.

82'

That was such a nice finish from Kane, who still had plenty to do when Sissoko played the ball into him on the edge of the box following that wayward ball out of the back by the Potters.

  • Harry Kane

76'

Son has the ball in the back of the net after lovely link-up with Kane and a delicate dinked finish over the keeper, but the flag is up. Replays suggest he was certainly onside and that should be game over.

74'

Spurs seem to have taken control back of the game since the goal and look far more secure. Erik Lamela, who is returning after an injury lay-off, looks particularly lively, making a real nuisance of himself.

  • Ben Davies
GoalBen DaviesTottenham HotspurGOOOAAALLL!!! Spurs are back ahead and it’s come from an unexpected source. There didn’t seem to be much danger when a clearance fell to Ben Davies 25 yards out, but he set himself up well and struck a fizzer of a shot that skimmed off the surface before nestling right into the bottom corner. It’s a wonderful strike.

69'

Kane is tripped on the edge of the box but tries to stay on his feet and get a shot away, only for the ball to dribble away from him. The referee waves play on and you have to feel he might have been better taking that foul (not to condone that sort of behaviour).

66'

Mourinho has seen enough and makes a double change. On come Sissoko and a fit-again Lamela for Dele and Lucas.

64'

This game has really opened up, with Stoke getting lots more of the ball as they gain in confidence, which in turn has given the visitors the space on the break that they crave. It feels very loose from Spurs though, and Mourinho doesn’t look happy down on the bench.

61'

Just a reminder that the League Cup has changed its rules for this season and there will be no extra-time in this game, meaning if it stays at 1-1 then we’ll go straight to penalties at full-time.

59'

Fletcher isn’t picked up in the Spurs box, but he’s a long way out and his header fails to really trouble Lloris.

56'

Dele is looking dangerous in this more advanced role and almost gets a shot on target after turning an aimless Winks punt into a threatening situation with a clever run. His effort on the turn is blocked but he’s looking increasingly like his old self.

54'

That's Thompson's first goal for Stoke and it could prove to be a vital one, with a spot in a cup semi-final at stake.

  • Jordan Thompson
GoalJordan ThompsonStoke CityGOOOAAALLL!!! Stoke grab an equaliser out of absolutely nowhere, with Thompson ghosting onto a cross at the back post and slamming a shot through Lloris from close range. Thompson should never have been left in that much space, but it’s a good finish and a real shake-up for a game that Spurs looked to have under control.

50'

It looks like Spurs have made a definite change to their shape, with Dele and Kane forming a front two, with the latter dropping off and Alli acting as the central point between Son and Lucas.

48'

Kane floats a gem of a ball over the top of the Stoke defence but Alli can’t quite make contact – admittedly it was a tricky one, coming over his shoulder and calling for a twisting aerial volley.

... and Bale hits it straight into the wall. That's the end of the first half.

45'

Spurs have a free-kick right on the corner of the area and Bale is standing over the ball...

44'

Davies takes a free-kick early and looks for Kane with a raking long ball over the top, but it’s slightly overhit and runs through to the keeper.

43'

Dele almost makes it a much safer game for Spurs, curling a shot towards the far corner from distance and drawing a save out of Lonergan.

41'

It’s not exactly been a thrill a minute during this first half, but the game is set up for an interesting second period. Spurs are the better team and should go on to win it, but at 1-0 Stoke will be reasonably happy that they’re in with a chance, particularly given how they’ve limited the visitors to a small handful of opportunities.

39'

Stoke look slightly more capable of putting together something in the final third since the arrival of Fletcher, with his flick-on causing a brief moment of panic in the Spurs defence.

35'

Kane slips Dele through with a clever reverse but the keeper makes a smart stop with his trailing leg to deny Spurs a second. That’s a really nice save by the Stoke debutant.

32'

Winks finds Dele with a dinked ball over the top but the flag is up.

30'

Collins brings down Dele with little better than a rugby tackle and earns a place in the ref's book.

28'

Bale whips in a superb corner towards the back post and Dele very nearly ghosts onto it. Some nice defending from Collins denies a golden chance for the lesser-spotted England midfielder.

26'

Stoke have their first chance of the game to get a ball into the box from a set-piece, but a training-ground routine goes wrong and no cross comes in at all. To say that the centre-backs who’d gone forward are unimpressed would be an understatement.

24'

This could be hard work for Stoke now, having to chase the game wasn’t the game plan, especially without the squad’s main goal threat in Tyrese Campbell.

  • Gareth Bale
GoalGareth BaleTottenham HotspurGOOOAALLL!!! Spurs have the lead and it’s Gareth Bale who’s got it! A cross from deep by Harry Winks picks out Bale unmarked on the penalty spot, and his guided flicked header perfectly finds the bottom corner. That’s a clever finish.

19'

Collins puts his keeper in all sorts of difficulty with a wayward back-pass and the debutant can only slice it behind for a corner. He rightly looks a little bit disgruntled about that hospital-pass.

16'

Spurs may be dominating on paper, but this is a nice set-up from Stoke. The hosts are set up nice and compact, largely denying the visitors any opportunity to launch those counter-attacks that have been the bedrock of their performances in the last month.

14'

Lonergan gets strong hands to Kane’s shot from a tight angle. That’s the first significant attempt of the game and it came after a delightful little flick from Gareth Bale to break open the Stoke defence.

12'

Dele Alli’s quick feet earn him a free-kick in the centre circle as Spurs continue to enjoy plenty of possession with little cutting edge. I’ll probably be able to copy and paste the second half of that sentence for much of the next hour or so, on the evidence of the play so far.

8'

A raking cross-field pass is headed back by Doherty, but Bale can’t control and Stoke mop up at the back.

6'

Spurs continue to dominate possession, but there hasn’t been even a hint of a chance to mention yet.

4'

It’s not exactly surprising that Spurs are looking to test the Stoke keeper Lonergan, he’s making his debut for the club and is essentially the fifth choice. You read that right, FIFTH!

3'

It’s a very bright start from Spurs, with a number of dangerous crosses coming in towards Kane from the Tottenham left flank.

1'

And away we go. Stoke line up in their traditional red and white stripes with white shorts, while the visitors make a rare appearance in their green away strip.

No fans in the ground this evening but there has been an upgrade to the covid-secure facilities for the away team, with Spurs being treated to what looks like a heated marquee… luxurious!

Ten minutes until kick-off at the Bet365 Stadium.

Interestingly neither Giovani Lo Celso or Tanguy Ndombele even make the bench for Spurs tonight, with both having picked up knocks against Leicester. That pair have been key to any creativity in central midfield at Tottenham this season, so the pressure will be on for Winks and Dele to conjure something up.

It’s seven changes for the visitors from the team who started the 2-0 defeat to Leicester at the weekend. However, the spine of the side remains strong with Kane, Hojbjerg, Dier and Lloris the four players retained. There are starts for Dele Alli and Gareth Bale… two players with a lot to prove to their manager.

Stoke City make six changes and are missing the big-name presence of Jon Obi Mikel and Joe Allen as well as leading scorer Tyrese Campbell. There’s also a start for Tashan Oakley-Boothe against his former club.

So on to the team news...

16:40

Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage of the early kick-off in this evening’s Carabao Cup quarter-final action. Later on will see Everton host Manchester United, but first it’s the turn of Tottenham Hotspur who have travelled to Stoke City.
