MISS! Mount's penalty hits the outside of the post and Tottenham are through to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup!

GOAL! Kane buries it low and hard to his right. Tottenham 5-4 Chelsea.

GOAL! Emerson slots it down the middle for Chelsea, it's 4-4!

GOAL! A pause in the run-up from Moura, who then dispatches his penalty into the bottom left corner. Tottenham 4-3 Chelsea.

GOAL! Jorginho slips his penalty into the right corner and beyond Lloris. Tottenham 3-3 Chelsea.

GOAL! Hojbjerg also nestles his penalty in the left corner and it's 3-2 Tottenham.

GOAL! Azpilicueta shouts words of encouragement at his goalkeeper Mendy after levelling the scores. Tottenham 2-2 Chelsea.

GOAL! Lamela also sends it down the left and Mendy doesn't get close. Tottenham 2-1 Chelsea.

GOAL! Abraham goes the same corner as Dier, and scores. Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea.

GOAL! Dier sends Mendy the wrong way - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea.

Here we go then, Spurs to take the first penalty...

Full-time: A place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final will be decided on penalties!

Three minutes of added time to play!

Into the final minute of normal time and penalties are looming.

The momentum is with Spurs now as we approach the final whistle. Can they win it now? They have been by far the better side since the restart.

There is no extra-time tonight, remember. Penalties, anyone?

GOAL! Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea (Lamela): Tottenham are level! Reguilon provides the assist, his cross falls into the feet of Lamela, who pokes it past Mendy for a nice finish!

Over! A first sniff of goal for Kane as he gets in behind the Chelsea defence but curls a left-footed shot over the bar.

And now Dier is on hand to make an intervention to deny Mount finding Werner as Chelsea worked another nice move.

Dier is back on the pitch. That was a really odd situation.

A strange moment in the match as Dier races off the pitch and down the tunnel, followed swiftly by his manager, as Spurs are temporarily down to 10 men!

Over! Chelsea carve Spurs open at the back but Hudson-Odoi spurns the opportunity as he curls it over the bar from the edge of the box.

Changes from both sides, as Moura comes on for Bergwijn, while Abraham is on for Giroud.

Chance! Werner has an opportunity to seal the deal for Chelsea! Bergwijn slips as Kante feeds Mount. He switches it to Werner who is allowed the space for a shot, but it's straight down the middle for Lloris who smothers.

Reguilon heads wide from Aurier's cross and still Mendy hasn't really been tested on his Chelsea debut.

Spurs sub: Here he comes then, Kane is on for Tanganga as Mourinho throws caution to the wind in search of an equaliser.

Ooohh, a nervous moment for Mendy as he comes for a corner delivery and fails to claim it.

Tottenham have the visitors penned in at the moment. Aurier slips as he gets a shot away and it takes a deflection off Werner for a corner.

Chelsea sub: Chilwell's full debut comes to an end as he makes way for Emerson.

Spurs sub: Fernandes is replaced by Hojbjerg, who will take up a central midfield position, with Ndombele moving to the left.

  • Japhet Tanganga

Yellow card! And now Tanganga is cautioned for pulling back Mount.

Yellow card! Aurier goes into the book for a foul on Jorginho.

Over! Chelsea's turn to threaten now, with Azpilicueta seeing his shot rise over the bar from distance.

Tottenham waste a corner opportunity, playing it shot, after Bergwijn had done well to win the set-piece.

This is much, much better from Spurs. Bergwijn is involved as they work a nice move, with Aurier bending a left-footed shot wide. And moments later Bergwijn goes down inside the box following contact from Chilwell, but Lee Mason isn't interested in any Tottenham penalty appeals.

Chance! A good chance opens up for Reguilon to score on his Tottenham debut as he finds space on the edge of the penalty area to meet Aurier's cut-back, but he shoots straight at Mendy, who pushes it away.

Over! Bergwijn wriggles free on the right and blasts a rising shot at goal, and it's just over the bar. Much more urgency from Spurs already in the second-half, though.

Tottenham are pressing Chelsea's defence which is something we didn't see in the entire first half.

Kick-off! There are no changes at the break, which is something of a surprise from Tottenham's point of view, as the second-half gets underway.

Forget Werner's goal - this was the highlight of the first-half!

  • End of 1st Half

Half-time: Chelsea lead at the break through Timo Werner's first goal for the club, with Tottenham having barely laid a glove on the visitors.

  • Mateo Kovacic
Yellow cardMateo KovacicChelseaYellow card! Kovacic barges into Lamela, who was on the move for Spurs. It's a cynical foul and the Chelsea midfielder deservedly goes into the book.

Two minutes of stoppage-time to play.

Reguilon makes an important intervention to break up a Chelsea attack, which prompts applause from Jose. That will do his confidence the world of good after a nervy start to life in England.

Tottenham could do with their talisman. The hosts have only registered one shot on target thus far and with Son injured for this tie, the England international is their best hope of changing this game.

Five minutes until the half-time break. Kane is fixing his shinpads on the bench which suggests we may see him in the later stages of this game.

Werner's goal... His first goal in Chelsea colours. The first of many, you would think.

Save! Mendy is called into action for the first time in his Chelsea career. It's a comfortable save with his feet, though, as Lamela's shot from an acute angle lacked the power to really test him.

Haha, wow.

Reguilon's defending has been questionable so far but he gets a chance to run at the Chelsea back-line now. But he moves it sidewards and Spurs give the ball away.

Sanchez had been warming up to come on for Spurs - but he has since put his top back on and Dier is going to continue.

Dier looks fine to continue after all. He stays on the pitch for now.

Mourinho and Lampard are having a word on the touchline.

Things go from bad to worse for Spurs, who are about to lose Dier to injury. He's down and requires treatment.

Chance for Tottenham to equalise! Gedson pounces on a loose ball in the penalty area, but loses his footing at the vital moment, and Zouma gets an important touch to deny Spurs.

  • Timo Werner
GoalTimo WernerChelseaGOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (Werner): Werner is off the mark for Chelsea! Reguilon is to blame on his Spurs debut, as he gives the ball away in a dangerous area and then misses his tackle on Azpilicueta. He feeds Werner, who shapes up for the shot and rifles it into the bottom right corner. Chelsea deservedly lead.

Shot! Tanganga - restored to Spurs' defence after recovering from an ankle injury - breathes a sigh of relief as he slips and misses Hudson-Odoi's pass to Mount. But his shot is straight at Lloris.

Finally some drive from Chelsea, as Loftus-Cheek races down the right, but his cross is disappointing and straight to a Spurs player. Moments later, Mount shoots from 25 yards - from a similar position to where he scored on Saturday - but this time it's well wide.

Pass, pass, pass from the boys in blue. It's all in the central areas, however. Strange contest.

Not a thing for him to do so far, Chelsea's new 'keeper.

Chelsea have had 75 per cent of the ball so far. No chances of note just yet, though.

Chelsea are dominating possession in the early stages. Tottenham have barely had a touch.

Gareth Bale will soon be dominating your Twitter feed. The camera focused on him a moment ago and he was texting on his phone, not paying any attention to the match.

Werner bends a cross into the middle, searching for Giroud, but there's too much zip on the ball and it's out harmlessly for a goal-kick.

Azpilicueta tries to switch the play with a diagonal ball searching for Werner, who is starting out on the left tonight, but the pass is over his head.

Tottenham are shaping up with a back five. Aurier and Reguilon are operating at wing-back and I'm really looking forward to seeing what the latter could provide. He is a very exciting player going forward.

Kick-off! The players take the knee and Spurs then get us underway in this Carabao Cup clash.

Just a few minutes until kick-off now!

Asked who would play as a striker tonight, Jose simply said: "Nobody". He added the club was trying to "make it happen" in the market.

Tottenham haven't played a single match in this competition this season, but win tonight and they could find themselves in the quarter-final. Their third round tie was cancelled after Leyton Orient had a number of positive cases for Covid-19, and Spurs were subsequently given a bye.

Here's Frank Lampard: "I think we all know the Carabao Cup, for teams like ourselves and Tottenham that are challenging for the top four and Champions League, the Carabao Cup does have its place but we certainly respect it and every tournament we go in we try to win."

It's going to be a hectic 48 hours for Tottenham. After tonight, they host Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League play-off, and Mourinho is prioritising Thursday night's match. He said: "I would like to fight for the Carabao (Cup) but I don’t think I can. We have a game on Thursday that gives us not as much money as the Champions League but the group phase of the Europa League gives us a certain amount that, for a club like us, is very important."

Chelsea got the better of Tottenham when the clubs met in the League Cup final of 2015, too, with Mourinho claiming his first piece of silverware in his second spell in charge of The Blues. John Terry and Diego Costa scored the goals at Wembley.

Pre-match stat: Chelsea have won their last four matches against Tottenham in all competitions, their best winning run against their London rivals since a run of six between January 2000 and January 2002.

Alli's exclusion is weird. You can understand why he may not feature in Jose's first-choice XI, but not to even make the bench tonight is simply baffling.

Mass changes for Chelsea, too. Edouard Mendy starts in goal for his debut, while there's also a place at left-back for Ben Chilwell, who is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Blues. Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Timo Werner keep their places from the 3-3 draw at West Brom, with Olivier Giroud amongst those restored to the line-up.

Sergio Reguilon makes his debut for Tottenham, as Jose Mourinho rings the changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Newcastle. Nine in total, as Hugo Lloris and defender Eric Dier are the only survivors. There's opportunities for players such as Steven Bergwijn tonight. Harry Kane is on the bench, but Dele Alli once again doesn't make the squad.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Alderweireld, Dier, Tanganga, Aurier, Gedson, Ndombele, Sissoko, Reguilon, Bergwijn, Lamela.. subs: Hart, Doherty, Sanchez, Davies, Hojbjerg, Lucas, Kane /// Chelsea XI: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Chilwell, Jorginho, Kovacic, Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Werner, Giroud.. subs: Kepa, James, Emerson, Kante, Barkley, Havertz, Abraham.

Hello and welcome to Eurosport's LIVE text commentary of the Carabao Cup fourth round clash between Tottenham and Chelsea. Spurs have a Europa League play-off on Thursday, and Jose Mourinho has said the EFL has "made a decision" for his team. You can sense, then, he won't be taking this cup tie very seriously... Team news will follow in a moment.
