Port Vale ran out 3-1 winners at home against Southend, making their opponents pay for poor defending.

Although Sam McQueen scored in stoppage time, that was only ever going to be a consolation after first-half goals from Ajay Leitch-Smith, Carl Dickinson and Michael O'Connor.

To add insult to Southend's injury, David Mooney missed a penalty with seconds left on the clock.
