York have announced that striker Reece Thompson is suffering from a long-term illness which has prevented him from training with his team-mates in recent weeks.

Reece Thompson moved to York in August from non-league Frickley Athletic.

The 22-year-old joined the Minstermen from non-league Frickley Athletic in August and struck three goals in his first five League Two outings for the club.
Thompson has not featured for the first-team since their Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory over Doncaster on October 6 and the club published a short statement on their official website to clarify his ongoing situation.
"York City Football Club can confirm that first team player, Reece Thompson, is suffering from a long-term illness, which has resulted in him being unable to train with the Club for several weeks," it read.
"Reece is at home with his family and the Club are providing him with support to aid his recovery, Reece's team-mates and everyone at York City wishes Reece the very best."
York currently sit 22nd in League Two and face leaders Plymouth at Bootham Crescent on Saturday as new boss Jackie McNamara takes charge of his first league fixture since replacing Russ Wilcox last week.
