Cristiano Ronaldo: I'll finish my career at the top level, not in Qatar or the USA

Real Madrid’s all-time record goalscorer, with 326 goals in 315 games, turns 31 in February and is starting to contemplate the legacy he will leave the game.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are repeatedly linked with Ronaldo, with Chelsea also said to be interested in reports in the Spanish press on Thursday.

Real Madrid must decide whether to try and recoup some money on a player they purchased for £80 million in 2009 at the end of the season, but beyond his immediate future, Ronaldo is very clear as to how he envisages his career finishing.

And he is not keen on replicating players like Xavi or Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard who have moved to Qatar and USA for their final pay-days.

“In my mind I want to finish in the top level,” Ronaldo said on the Jonathan Ross show. “I want to finish with dignity so in a good club. It doesn’t mean that to go USA or Qatar or Dubai is not good but I don’t see myself.”

Ronaldo also addressed the persistent reports that United want to bring him back to Old Trafford by reasserting his commitment to Real Madrid.

“I’m a huge supporter of Manchester United - as I say many times, I’m very comfortable in Real Madrid now, I feel happy,” he said.

“But as people know I like Manchester United, I love that club, but [the] future, nobody knows. But right now I feel good and I feel happy in Real Madrid.”

Beyond his playing days, Ronaldo harbours no ambitions of going into management as he has a portfolio of brands to work with.

“No passions to be a coach, I want to carry on with my brands… I have many brands and I want that still, I want still to grow with my brands.”
