Barcelona leapfrog Real Madrid into top spot in La Liga (for a couple hours anyway) and they do so in style. Sporting Gijon never really put up much of a fight, but the Catalans were exceptional going forward. They haven't been at their best in recent weeks, but this was a return to form for Lucho's team.

Sporting Gijon will now turn their attentions to the weekend's clash with Deportivo La Coruna. That's a much more important game for them if they are to avoid the drop.

This has been a comprehensive performance by Barcelona, but it must be noted that they haven't really been tested much. Sporting Gijon rolled over for them early on.

Alba is now taking it upon himself to play as an additional striker in these final few minutes of this match. He hit the post minutes ago and now he has a taste for it.

ALBA STRIKES THE POST! The left back hits the woodwork with an effort from the edge of the box, but the flag is up on the far side. Replays show he wasn't offside.

This result will see Barcelona leapfrog Real Madrid at the top of the league table by one point. Of course, Real Madrid play after this game. They face Las Palmas at home.

I owe Rakitic an apology. Replays show that his shot from the edge of the box moments ago was in fact saved. I somehow missed that. Was confused when the corner was taken.

RAKITIC SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER! The Croatian midfielder had time to pick his spot from 18 yards out, but he dragged his effort well wide of the far post. Poor from Rakitic.

This match was effectively over inside 11 minutes, when Barcelona went 2-0 up. Since then Sporting Gijon haven't really posed much of a threat, allowing the hosts to play as they desire.

Another change for the away side, with Alvarez coming off. That's a straight swap for Sporting Gijon.

Cuellar was doing his best Superman routine there. He got nowhere near the ball as Neymar whipped a corner kick into the area, but the goalkeeper got away with it.

Alba just about gets away with a poor back pass. He didn't make a clean connection with the ball as he passed it back to the goalkeeper, but Ter Stegen managed to get there first.

This really is something of a training match now. Barcelona are playing at walking pace in and around the opposition penalty box. Sporting have shown very little fight in this second half.

Lucho is going to use his final change here and Rafinha comes off to be replaced by Roberto.
