Barcelona look to sell five to balance books

Barca's wage outlay is 84 percent of their budget and major reconstruction work is needed to rebuild their squad, according to media reports.

Arda Turan will depart the Camp Nou next summer, but the Turkish midfielder is likely to be joined out the exit door by Thomas Vermaelen, Paco Alcacer, Andre Gomes and Aleix Vidal.

It is claimed Belgium defender Vermaelen had the chance to quit during the close season, but opted to remain in Spain.

Vermaelen has made only 11 appearances for Barca since joining from Arsenal for £15m in 2014, and spent last season on loan at Roma.

He made his first appearance since March 2016 in the 3-0 Copa del Rey win at Real Murcia on Tuesday.
