The 33-year-old spent his formative years at the Liga club, with a year at Recreativo Huelva in the middle, until he was signed by Malaga in 2011.
After one season with Los Boquerones Cazorla joined Arsenal where he made 129 appearances for the team.
Having initially joined as an attacking midfielder Cazorla moved back into the centre of midfield as his career developed.
The latter stage of his Arsenal career was hampered by injury, most notably the gruesome Achilles problem which has kept him out since October 2016.
Villarreal have confirmed he has returned to the club for pre-season with the hope of being able to start the new campaign with the team.
