Ansu Fati stole the show, scoring just two minutes into his first Barcelona start and assisting in a comprehensive 5-2 win for the Catalans over Valencia.
The away side arrived at the Camp Nou on the back of a turbulent week which saw Marcelino sacked and replaced by Albert Celades. This was never going to be an easy task for them and so it proved as Ansu netted after two minutes, converting from a Frenkie de Jong pass.
The roles were reversed just five minutes later when the 16-year-old set up de Jong for a strike into the roof of the net, before Valencia grabbed one back through Kevin Gameiro who slotted in off the inside of the far post - lengthy VAR review then confirmed he was onside.
Gerard Pique converted a rebound after Jasper Cillessen allowed an Antoine Griezmann shot to squirm through his hands and bounce off the post, with Luis Suarez coming off the bench to bag a brace following an injury lay-off.
Maxi Gomez scored a second goal for Valencia in stoppage time, but the damage was already done. This result lifts Barcelona up to fourth place in the Liga table, pulling them to within two points of table-toppers Atletico Madrid after their defeat to Real Sociedad.

TALKING POINT - A star was born tonight and he’s called Ansu Fati

Ansu had already scored as a Barcelona player before tonight, finding the net against Osasuna before the international break, but this felt like the announcement of the 16-year-old at the top level. It took Ansu just two minutes to score on his first Barca start and seven minutes to notch an assist. The teenager put on a sparkling display and left the Camp Nou crackling with excitement. A star was born tonight.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Ansu Fati (Barcelona)

There were a number of standout performers for Barcelona, with de Jong and Suarez both playing well. But this match was all about Ansu who stamped his mark all over it from the very first whistle. The 16-year-old could have finished with a hat-trick and almost every chance he created was off his own making. Ansu faded in the second half, but only because Valencia put three men on the teenager to stop him from doing more damage.

KEY MOMENTS

2’ GOAL! Barcelona 1-0 Valencia: What a moment! Ansu has scored two minutes into his first start as a Barcelona player! The 16-year-old arrived late on the scene, lashing home a low finish after an inch-perfect pass by de Jong. Ansu looks to be something special. Remember the name! What a star!
7’ GOAL! Barcelona 2-0 Valencia: The roles have been reversed for the second Barcelona goal! Ansu created the space, he crossed for de Jong and the young Dutch midfielder whistled a finish high into the roof of the net. It's already a long, long way back for Valencia from here.
18’ SOOOOO CLOSE! That would have been a stunner from Ansu! He moved the ball on to his right foot and curled a strike towards goal, but a slight deflection saw it flash just inches wide. Wow.
28’ GOOOOOOOOOO... NO! Valencia think that they have clawed one back. Gameiro was released in behind the Barcelona defence, he finished off the inside of the far post, but the flag was up for offside. I don't know... he looked onside!
29’ GOAL! Barcelona 2-1 Valencia: Valencia are back in this game! We had a lengthy VAR review after Gameiro was initially flagged offside, but he was onside when the pass from Rodrigo was played. The Frenchman finished calmly off the inside of the far post. We have a match again.
51’ GOAL! Barcelona 3-1 Valencia: Barcelona have restored their two-goal cushion and Cillessen handed his former team a gift there! Griezmann got the shot away on goal, the Dutch goalkeeper allowed it to squirm through his hands and on to the base of the post and Pique was on hand to finish the rebound!
55’ Semedo strikes the post! The Barcelona right back got to the edge of the box and decided to take on the shot himself. His low strike was a good one, but it came back off the inside of the far post!

62’ GOAL! Barcelona 4-1 Valencia: And that should be the goal that secures the points for Barcelona. Suarez has only been on the pitch for a minute and he has a goal. He hesitated on the edge of the box, but then found the back of the net off the inside of the near post. Lovely finish.
82’ GOAL! Barcelona 5-1 Valencia: It's another smart finish from Suarez! This time it comes from the clearance Wass made off the line from Rakitic. The ball broke to Suarez and he found the net at the near post. That's the second time that he has done Cillessen like that since coming on!
92’ GOAL! Barcelona 5-2 Valencia: It's a second consolation goal for Valencia. Cheryshev played a low cross into the box and Gomez was on hand to finish into the back of the net. It won't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, though. Barcelona are cantering to a win.
