Carvajal's goal proves to be the difference between the two teams. Real Madrid had to work for this win, but the three points take them to the top of La Liga ahead of tomorrow night's match between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Zidane's side were far from at their best, but they got the job done.

Big save from Areola! Manu got on the end of a corner kick at the near post and glanced a header towards goal, but the Real Madrid goalkeeper stayed big and made the crucial save!

PEREZ... how didn't that go in?!! What a chance for Alaves to snatch an equaliser! A corner kick bounced through to Perez at the back post, but Marcelo and Isco charged him down and deflected it over!

Alaves have played well, they have fought hard, but they will be disappointed by how few times they have managed to test Areola. He hasn't really had a save to make, other than the penalty.

That was a chance for Real Madrid to score a third goal. Isco was released in behind by a cheeky Valverde backheel, but the block was made before the ball could be played into the middle.

Keep in mind there was that lengthy delay after the second Real Madrid goal and so there will be a decent amount of stoppage time added on. There's still time for Alaves here.

As already mentioned, Valverde has become a key figure for Real Madrid this season so it was something of a surprise to see him on the bench this afternoon. He should steady this match for the away side.

Garcia comes on for Alaves, who are enjoying a good spell in the match at the match. Seeking an equaliser. You wouldn't bet against them.

Militao is shown a yellow card as Real Madrid start to get a bit ragged. This would be a big win for them at this point of the season.

And there's the expected change for Real Madrid with Valverde coming off the bench.
