Barcelona finish the match with 10 men after the sending off of Lenglet, but the defending Liga champions can be fairly pleased with three points from this match. Getafe posed them very few issues and while Barca were far from their best they got the job done. The Catalans get their first away win of the season.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Getafe 0-2 Barcelona
It'll be all eyes on the Metropolitano for the Madrid derby later this evening, but Barcelona have done their job to apply pressure on both Atleti and Real ahead of that game.
- OffCarles PérezFC Barcelona
- OnJean-Clair TodiboFC Barcelona
It should be noted that Todibo came on a few moments ago. He will surely play in the next Liga game against Sevilla with Lenglet suspended.
Into stoppage time at the Coliseum and despite Barcelona being down to 10 men they are on course for three points.
Is there one last chance left in this match for Getafe to at least make the final few minutes a bit tense for the defending champions? Barcelona are content with what they have.
What a chance! That was the opportunity for Getafe to make a fight of this with Barcelona down to 10 men! Angel heads over when he should have found the back of th net.
For the moment, until the change is made, de Jong is slotting in alongside Pique at centre back. It should be noted that Pique is also a booking away from a suspension!
That red card could be quite costly. It means that Lenglet will be suspended for the game against his former club Sevilla. Todibo has been sent to go warm up by Valverde.
- Red cardClément LengletFC Barcelona
SENT OFF! Lenglet has been shown a second yellow card. That had been coming. The Barcelona centre back had been sailing close to the wind. Barca have been reduced to 10 men.
- OffSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
- OnIvan RakiticFC Barcelona
Rakitic is brought off the bench as Barcelona look to see out this victory. Experience.
This has been far from a vintage Barcelona performance, but it must be said that the Catalans have done a very effective job of closing up the game since the first goal was scored.
PICTURE: Pique has done a good job of marshalling things at the back for Barca.
- Yellow cardSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
Roberto becomes the latest player to enter the referee's book. Racking up now.
This will at least ease some of the pressure on Valverde. It reached boiling point last weekend as Barcelona fell to a humiliating defeat to promoted Granada. Two wins since then, though.
Arthur shoots wide! That was a decent opportunity for Barcelona to finish this game off for good. It was a dodgy moment from Soria, but with half the goal open Arthur shoots wide.
- OffJasonGetafe CF
- OnPortilloGetafe CF
Getafe use the cooling break to make a change with Portillo coming on for the final 15 minutes.
- OffAntoine GriezmannFC Barcelona
- OnNélson SemedoFC Barcelona
That's an unexpected change. Semedo comes on for... GRIEZMANN???
It looks like Barcelona might be about to make a change. There is some activity down on the bench of the away side, but it's not quite clear who is getting ready. We'll see soon.
Perez drags wide! Arthur played a wonderful reverse pass in behind for the youngster to chase, but he pulled his left-footed strike well wide of the far post when he should have tested Soria.
Barcelona are just 20 minutes away from a win that will pull them to within just one point of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. With the Madrid derby to come tonight, that could be significant.
Despite the lack of options on the bench, it's somewhat surprising that Valverde hasn't made a change yet. This match feels like it might have been settled already. Getafe doing little.
PICTURE: Two of the more experienced options Barca have on the bench.
Getafe haven't beaten Barcelona at the Coliseum since November 2011 and on the basis of what we have seen so far it doesn't seem that this is going to change today.
- Yellow cardNemanja MaksimovicGetafe CF
And Maksimovic is also shown a yellow card for his protestations about Kenedy's booking.
- Yellow cardKenedyGetafe CF
Kenedy is shown a yellow card. The home supporters aren't happy about that. They feel he won the ball fairly from Busquets.
That was a decent idea. Suarez played the scooped ball over the top for Griezmann to chase, but it was just slightly over hit and Soria came off his line to make the intervention.
This match has fallen back into the pattern we saw for much of the first half. There's not much action between the two teams. The game is being largely played in the middle of the pitch.
Barcelona's recent injuries means that Valverde doesn't have much in the way of experience to turn to on the bench, especially in the attacking areas. Down to the bare bones.
Getafe have held their own for the majority of the match, they haven't been overrun at any point, but they haven't created enough. They haven't done enough to test Ter Stegen.
- OffJaime MataGetafe CF
- OnJorge MolinaGetafe CF
There's Getafe's first change with Molina coming on for Mata, who barely had a sniff.
PICTURE: Suarez opened the scoring just before the break.
It looks like Suarez has been shifted out to a wider position with Griezmann now playing through the middle. It's about time. Valverde needs to do more to build around Griezmann.
Last weekend's defeat to Granada looked like being the beginning of the end for Valverde at Barcelona, but a win over Villarreal and a win here would get the Catalans back on track.
This match has served Getafe with a harsh lesson. Ter Stegen has stopped them from finding the net and two lapses at the back have allowed Barcelona in to score twice.
Firpo has endured a mixed start to life as a Barcelona player. What a difference a week can make, though. The full back reacted sharply there to finish the rebound and take the chance.
Soria has made a number of good saves this afternoon, but he was at fault for that goal. The Getafe goalkeeper made the save from Perez, but he should have done better to send it wide.
- GoalJunior FirpoFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Getafe 0 Barcelona 2 (51 mins - Junior Firpo). Barcelona have doubled their advantage and they might be out of sight! Perez got the shot away on goal, but Soria didn't deal with it and that allowed Firpo to nip in and convert the rebound. Barca have given themselves a two-goal cushion!
- Yellow cardClément LengletFC Barcelona
Lenglet enters the book and that means the Barca centre back will need to careful to get to full time.
PICTURE: Suarez has scored the only goal of the game so far.
Griezmann has been on the peripheries of the game so far. Valverde needs to find a way to get the Frenchman involved because he has been in decent form over the past few weeks.
Barcelona were pretty poor over the first 45 minutes, but they found the breakthrough just before the break. Can they build on that? Will that see them relax a bit and play some football?
- OffAllan NyomGetafe CF
- OnKenedyGetafe CF
Getafe have made a change at the half time break with Kenedy coming on for Nyom who has struggled with the pace of Perez.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Barcelona have a 1-0 lead over Getafe in this La Liga fixture.
What did you make of the first half at the Coliseum? Is there a way back for Getafe? What do they need to do to expose the Barcelona defence? Tweet me your thoughts!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Getafe 0-1 Barcelona. Suarez's goal is the difference between the two teams at the break, but in truth this has been a poor match so far. Barca are really missing Messi.
Two minutes of stoppage time will be played at the end of the first half.
- Yellow cardSergio BusquetsFC Barcelona
Busquets is now shown a yellow card and that means he will miss the game against Sevilla.
Getafe will feel somewhat hard done by. They have more than matched Barcelona in this first half, but a goal out of nowhere means that they will head into the break behind.
Suarez grabbed the goal, but the breakthrough came from an assist made by Ter Stegen. It was a great intervention by the German to stop Getafe and then he launched a ball over the top.
- GoalLuis SuárezFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Getafe 0 Barcelona 1 (41 mins - Luis Suarez). Out of nothing, Barcelona have taken the lead! Suarez was played over the top of the Getafe defence and the striker lifted a wonderful finish over Soria to give the away side a crucial lead just before the half time interval. Not sure they deserve it.
Barcelona need to find a way to get Griezmann involved in the game. The Frenchman has been isolated out on the left side. Why not stick him through the centre and get him working with Suarez?
Firpo is a bit of a project for Barcelona. He was a winger and was converted into a full back at Real Betis, so there are still vulnerabilities in his game as a defender. He needs to develop.
In truth, this has been a bit of a non-event of a first half. Getafe have held their own, Barcelona have created the slightly better of the chances, but this hasn't been a great watch.
- Yellow cardBruno GonzálezGetafe CF
There's the first yellow card of the match and it's shown to Bruno for a barge on Suarez.
The Madrid derby will take place later this evening at the Wanda Metropolitano, so this is a good opportunity for Barcelona to make up ground on Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
Should that have been a booking? There was a very high foot from Busquets on Arambarri, but the referee decides that it didn't warrant a yellow card. Hmmm... not sure about that.
We're back under way after the cooling break. Valverde took the opportunity to speak to his players about something. Surely the Barcelona boss wants to see more intensity from his team?
It's just not happening for Barcelona at the moment. This performance so far has done nothing to allay the fears that some fans have that they are utterly reliant on Messi. They're missing him. A lot.
Of course, it should be noted that Cucurella is on loan from Barcelona. He was signed in the summer and then sent out on loan immediately to Getafe. He is quite the talent at full back.
We're still waiting for this match to burst into life. Barcelona have had a couple chances, Getafe have threatened at times, but there has been a lack of quality in the final third so far.
Block! Firpo gave away a freekick, but then managed to make a block on Angel to prevent the Getafe player from testing Ter Stegen in the Barcelona goal. He's looking more secure.
Despite my last update, you do get the feeling that Barcelona are slowly starting to turn the screw on the home side. They are seeing more of the ball in dangerous areas of the pitch.
The match has become a bit more open in the last five minutes. However, Getafe seem quite content to keep things tight and conservative. This suits them. They look in good shape.
Just wide! De Jong's backheel flick in the centre of the pitch opens up the space for Barcelona on the break, Griezmann finds Suarez, but his low strike flashes just wide of the post from the edge of the box!
Denied by Ter Stegen! That's the first chance of the game for Getafe. Angel moved the ball on to his left foot inside the box, but the Barcelona goalkeeper narrows the angle to smother the shot.
This is an interesting game plan from Barcelona and I'm not entirely sure it's working. They are attempting to run the ball rather than move it. Is that wise against this Getafe side?
Firpo suffered a dreadful debut in the defeat to Granada a week ago. He was at fault for the opening goal just two minutes. However, he fared rather better against Villarreal during the week.
Of course, Getafe came close to finishing in the top four last season. That would have seen them qualify for the Champions League. They are a team that can't be underestimated.
Replays show that Suarez was actually onside when the pass was played. With VAR, that goal would have counted. He should have at least hit the target with his chipped effort.
He was offside! Suarez got in behind the Getafe backline for the first time in the match, but he drags his chipped finish wide. Thankfully for him, the offside flag was up against him anyway.
That statistic about winning without Messi will be a real worry for Valverde. Barcelona are so often a different team without the Argentine, even with the amount of talent they have elsewhere.
Ansu has hogged the headlines as the breakthrough star of Barcelona's season so far, but the emergence of Perez mustn't be ignored. He has given the Catalans a real option in attack.
Soria makes the save! That's the first time that the Getafe goalkeeper has been tested. Perez shows great pace to get past Nyom, but after cutting inside the low shot is saved. Good save.
PICTURE: With Messi out there is more on this man's shoulders today.
This hasn't been the most exhilarating start to the match. Both teams are just feeling each other out, but Getafe will be the happier of the two teams. Barcelona aren't in control, yet.
There were headlines during the week concerning Arthur and a night out that perhaps wasn't authorised by the club. Valverde has picked him for this match, though. Not too concerned.
Damian looks to be doing a man-marking job on Griezmann. The Getafe right back is an underrated player. He might not be the flashiest, but he certainly does a job for his team.
There are indeed some questions being asked of Suarez at the moment. The striker is only just returning from injury and it's fair to say that he looks out of shape and off the pace.
One of the criticisms of Valverde this season focuses on his use of Griezmann. The Frenchman has been used out on the left side when he has played in the same team as Suarez.
Last weekend, Barcelona were dreadful away to Granada as they lost 2-0 to the promoted side. So that will give Getafe some encouragement that they can cause similar damage.
Something has to give here this afternoon. Getafe have been really poor at home so far this season and Barcelona have been really poor away from home. So what will happen here?
The pre-match scene...
It's a lovely, pleasant afternoon on the outskirts of the capital. The pressure is on Barcelona and Valverde. They need to show that they can cope just fine without Messi.
- 1st Half
The match is under way! It's Getafe against Barcelona in this La Liga fixture.
Okay, here we go. About to get started at the Coliseum. Kick off is just moments away.
The last time Barcelona lost against Getafe at the Coliseum was back in November 2011. However, this is a tough place to visit.
Will injuries be a real issue for Barcelona this afternoon? Can Getafe, who finished fifth last season, cause them problems?
Not long until kick off at the Coliseum. This is a big match for Barcelona. They need to prove that they can win without Messi. They have struggled without the main man over the early part of the season.
Barcelona started well against Villarreal during the week, they took a 2-0 lead, but they dropped off once Messi went off through injury and that allowed the opposition back into the match. Gulp.
Dembele injury! The French winger was rushed back after the injury suffered by Messi during the week and he too has suffered. Dembele joins the Argentine on the sidelines for this match.
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can catch me on Twitter ahead of the match to let me know your thoughts. Can Getafe pile more misery on Barcelona? Or will the Catalans cope without Messi? Tweet me!
No Messi! Unsurprisingly, the Argentine is out for this match after picking up another injury in the midweek win over Villarreal. That means there's a place in the lineup again for the youngster, Perez.
