Eibar gave up the ball in the centre of the pitch which gave Modric the chance to play through Hazard, but the pass from the Croatian was too heavy. That was an opportunity!

Rodrygo has barely had a touch of the ball in these opening 15 minutes or so. All of Real Madrid's play has come down the left side through Hazard and Benzema drifting over there.

Penalty claim! Carvajal goes in on Kike inside the area and the Eibar players want the officials to look at the video tape, but the referee decides that there was nothing in that incident.

Barcelona won their match against Real Mallorca last night to open up a five-point gulf at the top of La Liga and so it's of utmost importance that Real Madrid also claim three points tonight.

Eibar got off to the worst possible start, but they have gathered themselves and are now seeing some of the ball as they attempt to play their way into the game. Much better.

It's not just Hazard who has benefitted from the three-month hiatus to recover in time for the remainder of the Spanish season. Asensio is back on the bench for Real Madrid tonight.

Of course, Hazard's season looked to be over when he picked up an injury in February, but the three-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic gave him the chance to recover.

This has been a strong start by Real Madrid, although Zidane will be slightly concerned that Hazard seems to be moving with a bit of discomfort. Will he be able to run it off?

It is slightly peculiar that Benzema wasn't called offside when he certainly seemed to be when the pass was played forward to him. It's possible I might have missed something there.

That should settle some of the nerves if Real Madrid had any. They will now have the opportunity to settle into the match and play their natural game for the rest of the contest.

There was a VAR check after that goal - they were looking for an offside against Benzema - but it is allowed to stand and Real Madrid do indeed have an early advantage.

The ball fell to Kroos about 16 yards out after Benzema had attempted to bundle his way through a couple tackles and the German midfielder passed a wonderful finish into the top corner of the Eibar net!

It looks like Real Madrid are in a 4-3-3 shape with Hazard on the left of the front three and Rodrygo on the right. Benzema is through the middle as is usually the case.

There is a real element of the unknown to this match. How will Real Madrid react to not only playing without fans in the stands, but to playing in an entirely different stadium for the next few weeks?
