After a strong start to the season, this was a reality check for Barcelona. They should have found the back of the net in the first half. They didn't and that allowed Getafe to gain a foothold in the second half. Barca will point to some refereeing decisions, but they were poor this evening.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Getafe 1-0 Barcelona
Off the woodwork! Goodness! A cross to the near post was headed on to his own crossbar by a combination of Braithwaite and Djene! So, so close to a late, late equaliser! That's surely it!
That was the chance! Messi got his shot away from the edge of the box, but it flashes past the post. Will Barcelona get another opportunity? They are on the brink of defeat!
After the Getafe goal, you expected Barcelona would pile pressure on the home side. That hasn't really happened, though. Instead, it's Getafe who have looked more likely to score again.
The referee is over talking to the Getafe coaching staff. Someone has been sent to the stand. It seems they were complaining over the amount of stoppage time to be played.
There will be SIX minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
- OffCuchoGetafe CF
- OnDavid TimorGetafe CF
Cucho is withdrawn immediately after missing that last opportunity.
He was clean through! Cucho had a full half to run into, he had a long time to pick his finish, but blasted his shot miles over the bar when he should have scored a second to settle this contest.
- OffSergi RobertoFC Barcelona
- OnRiqui PuigFC Barcelona
One final change from Koeman and it's Puig who comes on for the final few minutes.
Time is running out for Barcelona to snatch something from this match. You just knew as soon as Getafe took the lead that they were going to be very difficult to break down.
Off the crossbar! So close to being a second Getafe goal! Cucho was played in behind, he got the shot away under pressure from Lenglet, but Neto tipped the powerful effort on to the woodwork!
- OffFrenkie de JongFC Barcelona
- OnMartin BraithwaiteFC Barcelona
... and a fourth change for Barcelona is made. Braithwaite comes on for the final five minutes or so.
- OffAntoine GriezmannFC Barcelona
- OnFrancisco TrincãoFC Barcelona
Another change from Koeman and on comes Trincao...
Dest has played well for Barcelona tonight. The American international is primarily a right back, but gives Koeman a good option at left back as a deputy to Alba, who is injured.
Barcelona have just over 10 minutes to rescue a result from this match. They played well in the first half, but haven't done enough to break open Getafe in this second period.
Neto denies Cucurella! What a run that was for the former Barcelona player! He dribbled through the defence and got the powerful strike away on goal, but Neto made the solid save!
Barcelona believe Ansu was barged over inside the penalty area, but the referee waves away their concerns. The ball had already been won by the time the teenager was touched.
Barcelona's play in the attacking third of the pitch needs to be quicker. Getafe are being afforded far too much time to reset themselves at the back. They look pretty comfortable.
Messi is dropping deeper and deeper to pick up the ball. The Argentine is the one picking the passes from the centre of the pitch. He is trying to make something happen.
- Yellow cardAllan NyomGetafe CF
Nyom finally enters the book for leaving one on Busquets.
Koeman is out on the touchline looking at a small sheet of paper he is holding in his hand. What's written on it? What is his plan for the final 20 minutes of this match? Barca need something!
- OffJaime MataGetafe CF
- OnEnes ÜnalGetafe CF
Off comes the goalscorer and Unal is introduced to the game in Mata's place.
The Barcelona reaction to going a goal down has yet to truly materialise. Getafe look pretty comfortable. Surely we will see the Catalans start to turn the screw on the home side?
Of course, Barcelona face Real Madrid in the first Clasico of the season next week. A defeat here to Getafe wouldn't be the best preparation for that match against their biggest rivals.
- OffPedriFC Barcelona
- OnPhilippe CoutinhoFC Barcelona
... and the second Barcelona change sees Coutinho thrown on. Can he make a difference?
- OffOusmane DembéléFC Barcelona
- OnAnsu FatiFC Barcelona
Here comes the response from Koeman. Ansu is introduced off the bench...
Barcelona were impressive in their opening two matches of the new season. They had a clear identity as a side, but it's a little difficult to work out what their identity is this evening.
This is now a nightmare scenario for Barcelona. Getafe are a well organised and well drilled side. You do not want to give them something to protect and that's exactly what they now have.
Surely we will see some changes from Koeman soon? He has some good options on the bench. Ansu for Dembele would be an obvious change, and an obvious upgrade.
Keep in mind Real Madrid lost at home to Cadiz earlier this evening. This was a chance for Barcelona to exploit that, but they are also on course for a surprise defeat! Incredible.
- Goal by penaltyJaime MataGetafe CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Getafe 1 (57 mins - Jaime Mata) Barcelona 0. After a lengthy wait due to the VAR review, Mata remains calm and rolls the ball into the left-hand corner of the Barcelona net! Neto went the wrong way and Getafe have the lead in this second half! The penalty award was a soft one, but they took the chance they were handed.
Penalty decision stands and Getafe will have the chance to take the lead from the spot!
VAR review! This decision could be overturned after the VAR review. De Jong certainly went through the man, but the Barcelona midfielder also won the ball. But how cleanly? Hmmm...
PENALTY KICK TO GETAFE! De Jong brings down Djene clumsily inside the area and the referee points to the spot!
Koeman does have some good options on the bench. Will we see Ansu? The teenager was involved for Spain over the international break and might not be in peak condition.
Coutinho has been sent to go warm up by Koeman. How long will the Barcelona manager leave it to introduce the Brazilian who has enjoyed a pretty decent start to the season?
Suarez makes the tackle on the edge of the penalty area just as Messi looked set to prod through a pass for Griezmann who would have been clean through on the Getafe goal.
Dembele was handed a big chance to make a good impression in a rare start, but the French winger has so far been very quiet. Barcelona need to get much more out of him.
Barcelona had the better of the goalscoring opportunities in the first half, but they failed to find the back of the net with any of them. Messi hit the woodwork, of course.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! It's still goalless between Getafe and Barcelona in this La Liga fixture.
What did you make of the first half? Is this team and system the right one for Barcelona? Does Koeman need to make any changes? Are Getafe lucky not to be down to 10 men? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Getafe 0-0 Barcelona. Still waiting for the breakthrough in this one, but Barcelona have had the better of the first half and have created the better of the opportunities.
No action taken against Nyom for the arm into the face of Messi. That was a sore one for the Barcelona number 10, but the Getafe player gets away without even a yellow card!
PICTURE: Messi has struck the woodwork
Was that an elbow? The Barcelona players are trying to tell the referee Nyom elbowed Messi on the edge of the box. Could VAR be used to incriminate the Getafe player? Review still ongoing.
The paradox for Barcelona is that while the summer was one of chaos, and their team needs reshaping, the future is bright due to the number of exceptional young players they have.
The majority of Barcelona's attacks are coming through the centre of the pitch. Incidentally, that's where Pedri is operating. He has been excellent in this first half.
Bordalas is shown a yellow card on the touchline for... something. The Getafe head coach has had a bit too much to say to either the referee or the officials at the side of the pitch.
Getafe started well, but there is a sense now that Barcelona are turning the screw on the hosts. They are dominating possession and the chances are starting to come for the Catalans.
PICTURE: Dest has slotted in well
Griezmann has been complaining to the media that he hasn't been given a real chance to prove himself as a centre forward at Barcelona. He's been given a chance tonight. He can't miss those kind of opportunities.
Griezmann was clean through! On dear! That should have been the opening goal, with Griezmann played clean through by Pedri. But the French forward sends his shot clean over the target!
- Yellow cardErick CabacoGetafe CF
And now Cabaco is shown a yellow card for fouling Pedri. That one was worthy of a booking, though.
- Yellow cardGerard PiquéFC Barcelona
It should be noted Pique was also shown a yellow card a few moments ago. Card-happy referee.
- Yellow cardJaime MataGetafe CF
Mata is shown a yellow card for an arm into the face of Lenglet. That was a sore one.
This has been a very competitive first half between two very different teams in terms of their style of play. Getafe are a more conservative outfit than Barcelona, it's fair to say.
Apologies for the delay in bringing you updates from this match. Some technical issues on our end. All sorted now and you'll be relieved to hear you didn't miss much at all.
Off the post! Inches away from being an opening goal for Barcelona. Dest cut back the pass for Messi and the Argentine's first-time, left-footed shot came off the outside of the post.
Straight at Neto! Getafe create the best opportunity of the match so far with Maksimovic getting the shot away on goal, but the Barcelona goalkeeper was on hand to make the save.
Dembele, of course, was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United late on in the summer transfer window, but no transfer materialised and the winger stayed at the Camp Nou.
Pedri's role in this Barcelona team this evening looks to be an interesting one. He is alternating with Griezmann, although the Frenchman is more frequently the furthest forward.
Barcelona have started the league season in good form. They were very impressive against Villarreal and Celta Vigo and then took a point against Sevilla before the international break.
This has been a decent start to the match by Getafe. They are making good use of set piece opportunities and Barcelona don't look too comfortable at the back. Vulnerable.
Mix up! Barcelona got away with one there. Pique and Neto got in each others' way, but there was enough defensive bodies behind them to scramble the clearance away from inside the box.
Of course, Getafe have earned themselves a reputation as one of the toughest teams to beat in La Liga over the last two seasons. Is that something they can sustain this season?
That was a bit rough from Cucurella on Roberto. The Getafe left back was a Barcelona player earlier in his career, but has flourished since making the decision to leave the Camp Nou.
This is the start of a very challenging stretch for Barcelona. They have Ferencvaros in the Champions League next, then Real Madrid in El Clasico and then Juventus after that!
Pedri is another player who has been handed a surprise start by Koeman for this game this evening. It will be interesting to see how the youngster slots into the Barcelona system.
This is a very interesting team selection from Koeman. Dembele has been picked having been a peripheral figure for Barcelona in 2020. Can the Frenchman make an impression?
Dest has been handed his first start as a Barcelona player since joining from Ajax in the summer transfer window. The American is playing at left back. He is more comfortable at right back.
This is an opportunity for Barcelona to draw level on points with Real Madrid at the top of La Liga ahead of next week's Clasico after their shock home defeat to Cadiz earlier tonight.
