FULL TIME: Real Madrid 2-0 Osasuna

Rodrygo made a big difference coming off the bench for Real Madrid in the second half. The hosts were struggling to create in the final third, but the Brazilian opened up space.

PICTURE: This will be a big result for Los Blancos

Real Madrid's Brazilian midfielder Casemiro (C) celebrates with teammates after scoring during the Spanish League football match between Real Madrid and Osasuna at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium

There will be three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.

This was a tricky test for Real Madrid. They played with fire for much of the second half, but it looks like they have got the job done to keep hot on the tail of Atletico Madrid.

ISCO... wide! That should have been a third goal for Real Madrid! Isco created the space for himself inside the box with a lovely turn, but he shoots wide of the far post.

The hope for Real Madrid is that Ramos will be able to start against Chelsea in the Champions League next week. It was predicted that he would get some minutes here.

Of course, after this match Real Madrid have the second leg of their Champions League semi final tie against Chelsea. They will travel to Stamford Bridge next week.

Osasuna take off Torro and Jony, an attacking player, is on in his place.

A change from Real Madrid and Arribas is on for Asensio.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 2 (80 mins - Casemiro) Osasuna 0. How has that ended up in the back of the net? Benzema played the pass through to Casemiro and the Brazilian midfielder's touch somehow fooled Herrera and crosses the goal line! No matter how it happened, Real Madrid now have a two-goal cushion!

A win for Real Madrid this evening would see them close the gap on Atletico Madrid back to two points after Simeone’s side ground out a narrow 1-0 win over Elche earlier today.

Next weekend will see Real Madrid face Sevilla with Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou to take on Barcelona as well. That could be a key weekend in the La Liga title race.

Militao's Real Madrid career looked to be as good as finished not so long ago, but he has found some good form of late and might just have scored a crucial winner here!

Zidane tends to keep his emotions in check, but he's dancing about on the touchline after that goal! A huge moment in Real Madrid's season. That keeps them in contention!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (76 mins - Eder Militao) Osasuna 0. There's the breakthrough and it's a crucial one for Real Madrid! Militao gets on the end of a corner kick delivery into the box and guides a header past Herrera and into the back of the net! The Brazilian defender had tested Herrera with a couple headers in the first half!

Hazard had a brilliant first half, but faded after the break. The Belgian is still finding match fitness and sharpness and so it's likely just a case that he isn't up to speed yet.

Another change for Real Madrid and Isco is on for Hazard.

The title race at the top of La Liga is shaping up to be one of the most compelling in years. Just a few points divide the three teams involved and Sevilla can’t be discounted either!

Time is starting to run out for Real Madrid. They have just under 20 minutes to find a goal that would keep them within touching distance of Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.

It’s not as clear what will happen with Ramos, though. The veteran centre back is also out of contract at the end of the season, but talks with Real Madrid haven’t produced anything.

Modric is another Real Madrid player who has enjoyed an excellent season. The Croatian midfielder is actually out of contract in just two months, but he’s expected to sign an extension.

Courtois has enjoyed an excellent season. The Belgian took some time to find his feet after moving to Real Madrid from Chelsea, but he’s now one of the best goalkeepers in the game.

Indeed, some of the tactical decisions made by Zidane in recent weeks have proved his doubters wrong. Look at the way he used Valverde in the Clasico victory over Barcelona!

Despite his astonishing success as a manager, Zidane still doesn’t get the credit he deserves. The Frenchman is the best boss Real Madrid have had in the modern era.

Atletico Madrid’s stuttering form has opened the door for both Barcelona and Real Madrid to drag their way back into contention at the top of La Liga. It’s so tight between the three of them.

Chance for Martinez! The Real Madrid defence was split wide open with a pass through the middle, but Martinez's touch let him down the ball rolls through to Courtois. Opportunity!

This is reflected in the fact that Real Madrid enter this match on an unbeaten league streak of 18 games. They do drop points quite often, but Zidane’s side don’t lose many at all.

While Real Madrid have struggled to score goals recently, they have managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last three games in La Liga. They are tough to break down.

One interesting story to keep an eye on ahead of next week’s Champions League clash against Chelsea concerns Marcelo who might miss the game due to serving as a polling officer in the Madrid elections!

Militao over the top! Asenio clipped a freekick over the top of the Osasuna defence, Militao got on the end of it, but he fires his shot on the volley over the crossbar!

Martinez enters the referee's book for a cynical foul.

Osasuna had a four-on-four situation there, but Torres turned back when he should have had the conviction to play a final ball. They need to make the most of those chances!

It was revealed during the week that Carvajal will miss the rest of the season after suffering another injury. The right back had already been rushed back from injury once before this season!

Klopp said it was strange to play such high stakes fixtures at Valdebebas, and he does have a point, but Real Madrid saw the opportunity to accelerate building work in the pandemic.

Of course, this match is being played in the slightly surreal surroundings of the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano at Real Madrid’s training ground while the Santiago Bernabeu is being redeveloped.

PICTURE: Not happening for Benzema so far

Real Madrid, Osasuna, Benzema

Real Madrid have played some good stuff so far and they will feel they have had enough opportunities to be ahead, but the home side must demonstrate more of a cutting edge.

Initially, it appeared Zidane might be changing the system with the introduction of Nacho at half time, but with it being a like-for-like change for Varane that doesn't seem to be the case.

The second half is under way! It's still goalless between Real Madrid and Osasuna in this La Liga fixture!

HALF TIME: Real Madrid 0-0 Osasuna. The hosts have been the better team, but the deadlock has yet to be broken. Will that change in the second period? Hazard has looked good!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... NO! Osasuna think they have taken the lead right at the end of the first half, but Avila, who glanced the header home, was just offside!

Blanco has once again impressed this evening. He has handled the step up to the Real Madrid first team very comfortably. Zidane might have found a useful squad member there.

Osasuna really need half time to regroup. Real Madrid are well on top and it really feels like it's only a matter of time before the defending Spanish champions break through.

PICTURE: Still goalless

Real Madrid v Osasuna, Marco Asensio

It's not just that Hazard is playing well. The most encouraging thing for Real Madrid is that he actually looks fit. They have rushed him back from injury in the past. Not this time.

You can tell from the strength of the team selection just how much this match matters to Real Madrid. Anything less than a victory would surely end their title chances.

While the likes of Kroos and Modric have been rested for this one, it’s still a strong selection from Zidane despite the Champions League semi final second leg against Chelsea looming.

Osasuna are taking the opportunity to slow down the game. Things have got a bit hectic for them in the last 15 minutes with Real Madrid cranking up the pressure on them.

Benzema has been in exceptional form of late. He showed that in the way he dragged Real Madrid back into the first leg of the Champions League semi final against Chelsea during the week.

Into the side netting! It opened up for Vinicius after Asensio picked him out, but the Brazilian winger could only find the side netting when he should have hit the target!

It must be said, Hazard has been excellent in this first half. Questions have been asked of the Belgian as a Real Madrid player, but he has been their best player this evening.

The omens are good for Real Madrid this evening - the capital club have won all of their last 11 matches against Osasuna in all competitions. Can they make it 12 wins in a row here?

It feels like Real Madrid are banging on the door now. Osasuna have played some good stuff and have done a decent job, but the home side are now throwing everything at them.

Another save! It's Real Madrid against Herrera at the moment! Once again, Militao got on the end of a cross into the middle. but his header is saved by the Osasuna goalkeeper!

Militao saved! An even better save from Herrera! Militao made a perfect connection with a cross into the middle, it was on target, but the Osasuna goalkeeper tips over the crossbar!

HAZARD... saved! What a chance for the Belgian to open the scoring for Real Madrid! Marcelo found Hazard's run in behind, but Herrera makes the save to tip the shot over!

Shot from Benzema! Asensio played the cross into the middle, Hazard knew Benzema was behind him and flicked on the header, but the French striker volleys wide of the target!

Blanco has been handed a start for Real Madrid. The youngster has forced his way into the Real Madrid team in recent weeks and was impressive in the 3-0 win over Cadiz a fortnight ago.

Off the crossbar! Close to a fluke opener for the away side! Sanchez was trying to send a cross into the box, but he cut across the ball and caught out Courtois with spin. Off the bar!

Real Madrid have seen plenty of the ball in this first half, but they are struggling to create much in the attacking third. Benzema has been left isolated in the opening 20 minutes.

PICTURE: Odriozola starts

Real Madrid, Osasuna

Not so long ago, it seemed that Militao’s Real Madrid career might be over. But he has turned in a series of good performances and appears to have earned the trust of Zidane.

Let off for Militao! The Real Madrid centre back had his head in his hands after playing a weighty back pass that just about caught out Courtois, but the keeper made it back to retrieve it off the line!

In the absence of both Carvajal and Vazquez this evening, Odriozola starts at right back for Real Madrid. Zidane is known to be sceptical of the former Real Sociedad youngster.

Asensio goes for goal! Real Madrid create the shooting opportunity with a good passing move on the edge of the box, but Asensio's left-footed effort goes just over the crossbar.

From the halfway line! Casemiro spotted Herrera off his line and goes for the spectacular, but the ball flashes over the crossbar. The Osasuna goalkeeper was worried for a moment!

Osasuna have already taken points off Real Madrid this season. You can see that they carry a threat as a side. Avila has already demonstrated that he will cause some problems.

PICTURE: Hazard is back!

Eden Hazard of Real Madrid runs with the ball during the La Liga Santander match between Real Madrid and C.A. Osasuna at Alfredo Di Stefano on May 01, 2021 in Madrid, Spain.

Real Madrid come into this match on the back of successive draws against Real Betis and Chelsea in the Champions League. Zidane’s side looked knackered in the 0-0 draw with Betis.

That was wild! Casemiro takes on the shot from distance, but that effort from the Brazilian midfielder was never going to find the back of the net. The ball flies well over.

Straight at Courtois! Real Madrid gave up the ball cheaply inside their own half, Avila takes the shot quickly, but Courtois was alert to it and makes the straightforward save.

It's not just the return of Hazard that is making headlines this evening. Chimy Avila is starting a La Liga match for the first time since January 2020! Osasuna have missed him!

Danger for Osasuna! Hazard has started this match brightly, getting to the byline before cutting back a pass, but after a bit of a scramble the away side make the clearance.

Real Madrid signed Hazard with the idea that he would form a partnership with Benzema. There have been signs of that partnership, but Hazard just hasn’t made it on the pitch that many times.

Hazard is back for Real Madrid this evening. He has yet to get going since making the move to Spain from Chelsea two summers ago, but could still have a big impact on this title race.

Hazard over the top! The Belgian drives to the edge of the opposition penalty area and gets the right-footed strike away, but the ball flashes high and wide of the Osasuna target.

Osasuna have started well here. They have their foot on the ball, although it's still very early in this contest. As I said in the build up, this might not be easy for Real Madrid.

What sort of match will we get this evening? Real Madrid can boost their chances of retaining the La Liga title with a win. They are strong favourites to overcome a team sitting in mid-table.

The match is under way! It's Real Madrid against Osasuna in this La Liga fixture!

Okay, here we go. We are about to get started at Valdebebas. Kick off is coming up shortly.

The two groups of players are out on the pitch at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano. Pleasant evening in the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid have drawn their last two games at home. Surely it won't be three in a row tonight?

There's pressure on Hazard to deliver this evening. Is this the moment he finally announces himself at Real Madrid?

Recap - a Real Madrid win this evening would close the gap on Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga to two points following their narrow win over Osasuna earlier in the day.

Not long until kick off at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano. Real Madrid are favourites to claim all three points, but this won't necessarily be easy for them. They'll have to work for it!

No Kroos or Modric this evening. The two midfielders are on the bench as Zidane rotates his Real Madrid squad ahead of next week's Champions League clash with Chelsea.

Atletico Madrid got lucky earlier today, surviving a stoppage time penalty to claim a 1-0 win over Elche. That win extended their lead at the top to five points. Can Real Madrid draw them in again?
