What a match at Mestalla. Valencia claim a stunning 4-1 win over Real Madrid in what is easily the best result recorded by Gracia during his time at the club. All four of Valencia's goals came from defensive mistakes by the away side. Not what Zidane would have wanted to see before the international break.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Valencia 4-1 Real Madrid
Real Madrid head into the international break on the back of a damaging defeat. When they return, they have a tricky match against Villarreal, while Barcelona have Atletico Madrid!
Header wide! Another decent chance for Mariano, with the striker getting his head on the end of a cross into the middle, but it wasn't on target and Jaume watches it flash wide of the post.
PICTURE: A night to forget for Real Madrid
Chance for Mariano! A wonderful run by Rodrygo down the left side presented Mariano with the shooting opportunity from outside the area, but the striker sends his shot wide of the target.
There will be six minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.
- OffYunus MusahValencia CF
- OnJasonValencia CF
Gomez comes off for Jason. The Valencia striker was felled by Marcelo for the penalty that led to the third goal.
- OffMaximiliano GómezValencia CF
- OnRubén SobrinoValencia CF
Another change for the home side as the impressive Musah comes off.
- Yellow cardJaume DomenechValencia CF
And Jaume is also flashed a yellow card for time wasting. Just like Guillamon, he won't care.
- Yellow cardHugo GuillamónValencia CF
A booking for Guillamon, but he won't care much. This is now about winding down the clock for the home side.
- OffIscoReal Madrid
- OnLuka JovicReal Madrid
Jovic comes on for the final five minutes, but this game is as good as done for Real Madrid.
- OffKang-In LeeValencia CF
- OnKevin GameiroValencia CF
Kang-In comes off and is replaced by Gameiro. Kang-In had a really good game and showed why so many are excited about him.
- OffDenis CheryshevValencia CF
- OnToni LatoValencia CF
A change for the home side and Lato comes on for Cheryshev to try and shore things up.
- OffFederico ValverdeReal Madrid
- OnToni KroosReal Madrid
Valverde also seems to have picked up some sort of injury and on comes Kroos for the final 10 minutes.
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnMariano DíazReal Madrid
There's the change from Zidane and Mariano is on for Benzema.
Problem for Benzema! This isn't good news for Zidane. Benzema looks to have picked up an injury of some sort. He's grimacing and looks to be holding his groin. Oh dear. Bad to worse.
PICTURE: Valencia have a three-goal lead!
Real Madrid are pressing high on Valencia, but the home side are doing a good job of keeping the ball under pressure. Gracia has to be very pleased with what he has seen.
There will likely be a lot of talk about Asensio's poor form after this match. The Spain international isn't offering Real Madrid enough. He is capable of so much more!
Over the top! That was a chance for Vazquez to either get a ball into the middle or test Jaume with a shot, but in the end he does neither and the ball flashes over the Valencia crossbar.
Is this an illustration of how badly Real Madrid need Casemiro? The Brazilian is missing this evening and Valencia have, as a result, found it so easy to cut through the middle of the pitch.
There's still time for Real Madrid to turn this match around, but they have dug themselves an almighty hole to get out of! Can they score three times to salvage something?
- OffMarco AsensioReal Madrid
- OnRodrygoReal Madrid
... and the second Real Madrid change sees Rodrygo come on for the disappointing Asensio.
- OffVinícius JúniorReal Madrid
- OnMartin ØdegaardReal Madrid
Some changes by Zidane. On comes Odegaard for Vinicius...
PICTURE: Lots for the referee to consider tonight!
Such a bizarre game. You wouldn't really say Real Madrid have played that poorly, but they trail 4-1 after conceding no fewer than THREE penalty kicks! Weird, weird, weird.
- Goal by penaltyCarlos SolerValencia CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Valencia 4 (64 mins - Carlos Soler) Real Madrid 1. It's a hat trick of penalties for Soler! That's going to the answer to a quiz question! The Valencia midfielder kept his cool and sent the spot kick in the same direction as the second one and Courtois had no chance! The home side have a three-goal lead!
PENALTY KICK TO VALENCIA! It's a third spot kick to the home side! Ramos clearly handled the ball inside the area!
Still waiting on the VAR review, but this has to be given!
Big penalty claim! The Valencia players are adament that Ramos handled the ball inside the area and the claim is a strong one! The Real Madrid captain batted the ball away! This has to be given!
Asensio chance! Modric played a wonderful through ball for Asensio, but Jaume came off his line quickly to narrow the angle and smother the shot from the Real Madrid attacker!
Gaya is giving Real Madrid such problems down the left side. Vazquez has played pretty well as the deputy for the injured Carvajal recently, but he has been exposed this evening.
Valverde shot saved! The space opened up for the Real Madrid midfielder 20 yards out, he pulled his effort towards the near post, but Jaume wasn't fooled and makes the diving save!
This has been such a crazy, chaotic game. Valencia have a 3-1 lead, but the way the match has gone you wouldn't rule out a Real Madrid comeback. It's been that sort of night.
- Goal by penaltyCarlos SolerValencia CF
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Valencia 3 (54 mins - Carlos Soler) Real Madrid 1. Soler switches it up this time and goes the other way! Courtois went the right way, but as was the case with the second penalty he just didn't have the strength in his hand to keep the ball out of the net! Valencia have a two-goal lead here!
- Yellow cardMarceloReal Madrid
Marcelo is booked for his tackle and Valencia will have the chance to score for a second time from the spot!
PENALTY KICK TO VALENCIA! It's a second spot kick to the home team after Gomez is cleaned out by Marcelo inside the six-yard box.
Valencia have actually started the second half the better of the two teams in terms of possession and threat in the final third. Real Madrid are having to do some defending.
PICTURE: Valencia turned the game around!
Kang-In strikes the post! So close to a third Valencia goal! Kang-In picked up the pass, turned and then got the shot away from 20 yards out. Courtois did just enough to tip the strike on to the post!
Almost a disaster! Guillamon is far too relaxed at the back and very nearly allows Benzema through, but Jaume comes off his line to the edge of the box to make the save from the Frenchman!
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Valencia have a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid in this La Liga fixture!
What did you make of the first half at Mestalla? Does Zidane need to make changes to his Real Madrid side at the break? Do Valencia deserve to be leading? Tweet me your thoughts!
HALF TIME: Valencia 2-1 Real Madrid. Well, it's certainly been entertaining at Mestalla, but you can't really claim the play has been very high quality, especially from Real Madrid. Strange stuff.
There will be four minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the first half.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Valencia 2 (45 mins - Raphael Varane OG) Real Madrid 1. What a calamity at the back for Real Madrid! Varane spun the ball over Courtois and the Belgian goalkeeper couldn't do enough to scramble it off the line! Valencia have turned this match around! What a first half this has been!
Was there a foul on Asensio in the build up to the sequence that led to the goal? That's surely what the officials are now looking at. There was an arm in the face of Asensio from Cheryshev.
VAR checking... the officials are taking a very close look at this! The ball appeared to be over the line! What a bizarre sequence that was! It was an own goal lob over his own goalkeeper by Varane.
How didn't that go in? Wow! So close to a second Valencia goal! A cross from the right spun up into the air off Varane, Courtois then had to scramble it off the line... but did it actually cross the line?!
So much of Real Madrid's attacking play is coming down the left side. They have had nine attacka down the left side in this first half so far and only three attacks down the right.
That's the first yellow card of the match and it's shown to Soler for a 'tactical foul' on Valverde.
PICTURE: Good contest at Mestalla so far
That Valencia goal came pretty much against the run of play. Real Madrid were on top and had taken the lead through Benzema, but they have been pegged back through the penalty.
This was the opening goal...
Real Madrid are understandably aggrieved that Valencia were given a second chance to score from the spot when it was the hosts who encroached inside the area. But them the rules!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Valencia 1 (35 mins - Carlos Soler) Real Madrid 1. Eventually, Valencia are back on level terms! Courtois when the right way again, he got his fingertips on the shot, but Soler did just enough to squeeze the ball into the back of the net. This time the goal stands and the hosts have an equaliser.
PENALTY KICK TO BE RETAKEN! The referee has decided Musah was in the box when Soler struck his penalty kick and so Valencia will have another opportunity to convert from 12 yards out.
Waiting for a VAR decision... did Musah encroach? Officials taking their time over this.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Valencia 1 (30 mins - Yunus Musah) Real Madrid 1. Drama! Soler's penalty kick is saved by Courtois, his rebound then comes back off the post, but Musah is on hand to finish the second rebound! Valencia are back on level terms, but did he encroach in the box when the original spot kick was taken?
The officials are taking a look at this using the VAR, but Vazquez's arm was out and so the decision should stand. Valencia will have a chance to level things up from the penalty spot.
PENALTY KICK TO VALENCIA! Gaya's cross strikes the arm of Vazquez and the referee instantly points to the spot!
There's no sign of Carvajal this evening, with Odriozola also missing through injury. This has forced Zidane to play Vazquez, a winger, in the right back position in recent weeks.
The shot from Benzema was powerful, but it wasn't really in the top corner of the Valencia net. There were a lot of players in front of Jaume. Was the goalkeeper unsighted?
That goal had been coming. Valencia started pretty well, but Real Madrid have been turning the screw on the hosts since then. The away side have the lead and are in control.
- GoalKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Valencia 0 Real Madrid 1 (23 mins - Karim Benzema). Real Madrid get the breakthrough and it's a stunner from Benzema! Marcelo played the pass back to the French forward on the edge of the opposition penalty area and he arrowed a shot past Jaume and into the back of the Valencia net! Great goal!
Benzema surges to the Valencia byline down the left wing and cuts back the ball. It was heading for Ramos inside the area, but Gaya came across to cover and make the clearance.
Gaya gets to the byline down the left and cuts back a cross. It was heading for Soler in the middle, but Real Madrid get the clearance away. They have to be wary of the left back.
This has been a good period of the match for Real Madrid. They are pressing high on Valencia and the home side are struggling with that. Still waiting for the breakthrough, though.
PICTURE: Benzema looks lively
Header on target! Benzema gets on the end of the corner kick delivery to the near post, but his header didn't have enough power in it to beat Jaume. Still, another effort on target.
More is now being asked of Jaume. To get a good result against a team like Real Madrid, it's likely you're going to need a good performance from your man between the posts.
Jaume denies Modric! The pass was played back to the Real Madrid midfielder on the edge of the box, the left-footed shot was on target, but the goalkeeper got down to make the diving save.
PICTURE: Marcelo is in at left back
First shot on goal! Asensio takes aim from outside the box, but that was never really going to worry Jaume and the Valencia goalkeeper can watch the ball flash just wide.
Valencia have started this match relatively well. They certainly don't look out of their depth, althogh Zidane will also be content with how his Real Madrid team have started.
Towards Benzema! Marcelo gets the cross into the Valencia box from the left side, but Guillamon did well to get in front of his man to make the tackle and prevent the shot on goal.
There is, however, still some quality in Gracia's side. Gaya, for instance, is one of the best left backs in La Liga and is a regular at international level. He gives Valencia an outlet.
Casemiro isn't the only Real Madrid player missing due to a positive Covid-19 test. Hazard is also missing this evening. The Belgian had only just returned to fitness after injury!
It was only earlier this week that the sale of Kondogbia to Atletico Madrid was confirmed. Pretty much every player at Valencia is currently up for sale. They have lost so much quality.
Casemiro is such a crucial figure for Real Madrid, but the Brazilian midfielder is missing this evening after testing positive for Covid-19. What will that do to the structure of Zidane's side?
These are two of the biggest clubs in Spanish football, although one has fallen on tough times of late. Valencia are having real financial trouble with so many of their best players sold.
