'A lie!’ – Mario Balotelli denies he was planning cheeky t-shirt celebration against PSG
Updated 18/03/2019 at 11:14 GMT
Mario Balotelli has dismissed claims he was planning to unveil a t-shirt festooned with Marcus Rashford’s face if he scored against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Italian was reportedly wearing the shirt underneath his kit during Marseille’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday – an obvious reference to the runaway French leader's traumatising collapse in the Champions League, which saw Rashford fire home an injury-time penalty winner for Manchester United.
However, there are two issues:
- 1. He didn’t score in the 3-1 defeat
- 2. He denies the whole story, writing "this is a lie" on Instagram
Canal+ journalist Olivier Tallaron, the man who broke the ‘news’, doubled down on the claims – saying multiple people received the same information prior to the match.
Oh well. Balotelli/Tallaron’s grand plan joins the ghost museum of celebrations that never were.
But if Super Mario does fancy doing it, we’re quite sure he can recycle the inflammatory idea when PSG bottle it against another team in Europe next season…
