The 20-year-old has enjoyed doestic and international success in 2018, lifting the World Cup this summer with the French national side, and having picked up the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
It is the latest in a string of honours, having already received the Young Player Award, the Kopa Trophy – recognising talent in under-21s – and a fourth-place finish in the Ballon d’Or.
However, it was Atletico Madrid forward and compatriot Antoine Griezmann who finished in third place above Mbappe for the prestigious honour.
The two both scored four goals at 2018’s World Cup in Russia, though Griezmann finished in second place behind Harry Kane for the tournament Golden Boot, having also made two assists.
Mbappe inherits France Football’s title from last year’s winner, Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.
