FULL-TIME: Saint-Etienne 0-5 Lyon
A slightly predictable yet still embarrassing defeat for Claude Puel's Saint-Etienne, who fall to their joint largest Rhône derby defeat ever. He was hamstrung in terms of team selection due to injuries and Covid-19, but the players he did field could have at least shown a bit more fight against a Lyon side who barely needed to move into second gear.
Lyon move to within two points of PSG and Lille at the top of the table, while Saint-Etienne continue to linger above the relegation zone.

Ivory Coast international defender Sinaly Diomande comes on for Mendes.

- OffTino KadewereOlympique Lyonnais
- OnIslam SlimaniOlympique Lyonnais
No hattrick for Kadewere tonight as Islam Slimani is subbed on for him to make his Lyon debut!
- Yellow cardDenis BouangaAS Saint-Etienne
Bouanga lets his frustration get the better of him as he picks up a yellow for a foul.
SAVED!! Incredible stop from Moulin! Toko-Ekambi hints he's going to pass it to Depay but instead goes it alone and tries to catch the Saint-Etienne 'keeper off guard but Moulin reacts well to make a brilliant save.
- Own-goalDenis BouangaAS Saint-Etienne
GOOOOAAAALLL!!! And it's five! Lyon win a free-kick just outside the area to the left and Depay convinces Kadewere to let him take it before curling his effort into the top-right corner. Could be an own goal as replays show it came off the back of Bouanga's head.
- OffYvan NeyouAS Saint-Etienne
- OnZaydou YoussoufAS Saint-Etienne
Zaydou Youssouf comes on for Yvan Neyou in midfield for Saint-Etienne.
- Yellow cardRomain HamoumaAS Saint-Etienne
Hamouma's shown a yellow card for handball. It's a bit harsh though, and very reflective of the grey area surrounding the handball rule currently. He has every right to be annoyed.
- OffCharles AbiAS Saint-Etienne
- OnAdil AouchicheAS Saint-Etienne
Adil Aouchiche is the next young player to get a run out, as he comes on for Charles Abi.
- OffMiguel TraucoAS Saint-Etienne
- OnSaïdou SowAS Saint-Etienne
18 year-old Guinea international defender Saidou Sow is substituted on for Miguel Trauco.
- GoalTino KadewereOlympique Lyonnais
GOOOAAALLLL!!! Lyon turn the heat up even more as a great piece of skill leaves Depay with an open player either side of him. He opts for Kadewere to his right, who cuts inside onto his left to score his second of the night! 4-0.
Swift counter-attack by Lyon and Toko-Ekambi's put through on goal. He tries an audacious chip but Moulin reads it well and catches it with ease.
- GoalMarceloOlympique Lyonnais
GOOOOAAAALLLL!!! Oh my word, lightning has struck twice! That's a carbon copy of the second goal! Dubois' free-kick from a near-identical position floats into Marcelo again, who leaves the Saint-Etienne defence with a sense of deja vu as he heads home to make it 3-0.
OFF THE POST!! Nordin already making an impact after being subbed on at half-time! Played through on the counter attack, he decides to take-on Denayer himself before striking the ball on the move. His shot whacks the intersection between the post and bar before flying out for a goal-kick. Lopes was beaten!
- Yellow cardThimothée KolodziejczakAS Saint-Etienne
Kolodziejczak picks up a yellow for a foul on Toko-Ekambi.
Dubois finds a good area in the box with the set-piece, but his teammates are unable to control it before it's cleared.
Dubois is hacked down just outside the penalty area and wins a free-kick in the process. if he puts in a delivery close to his cross for Marcelo's goal then Saint-Etienne could be in trouble again...
- OffAS Saint-Etienne
- OnDenis BouangaAS Saint-Etienne
And Puel's second sub sees Gabonese left winger Denis Bouanga enter the fold in place of Baptiste Gabard.
- OffAlpha SissokoAS Saint-Etienne
- OnArnaud NordinAS Saint-Etienne
In an attacking sub, Arnaud Nordin comes on for the right-back Nelson Sissoko.
- 2nd Half
Back underway with the second half now! Rudi Garcia's Lyon side are unchanged, but keen to overturn the two-goal deficit Saint-Etienne make two subs.
- End of 1st Half
HALF-TIME: Saint-Etienne 0-2 Lyon
Very underwhelming first half for a derby game with a big billing. Reminiscent of a training game with a stark lack of intensity and Lyon just shooting for fun. Claude Puel's side do admittedly have a number of players out due to injury or Covid self-isolation but his Saint-Etienne team haven't lived up to his promise that they'd still be competitive, with them not even having a single shot on a goal.
Much needs to change for the second half!
Dubois benefits from a fortunate bounce to squeeze the ball through two players, charges towards the near post and attempts a low pass cross-goal but it's cut out by a defender. Lyon are so dominant he's practically playing as a right winger!
Saint-Etienne look to be playing more of a 4-4-2 instead of the more narrow 4-3-1-2 they've been deploying in previous weeks. But the sloppiness of their passing highlights why they're so comfortably behind, as Gabard takes a poor touch and lets the ball go out of play on the left.
- GoalMarceloOlympique Lyonnais
GOOOAAALLLLL!!! I'll take credit for that one! Fantastic free-kick delivery from Dubois and Marcelo rises to meet it and head home emphatically to make it 2-0 Lyon.
SAVED!! Yet another shot on goal from Lyon, who are practically camped out in Saint-Etienne's half. This time from Toko-Ekambi. A 1-0 lead really doesn't do them justice.
- Yellow cardBruno GuimaraesOlympique Lyonnais
Clumsy challenge from Lyon's Guimaraes as he becomes the first player tonight to enter the referee's book.
OFF THE BAR!! Lyon now starting to really stamp their authority on this game, dominating possession. Mendes strikes over the bar from range after some good build-up play, then De Sciglio's effort ricochets off the bar shortly afterwards!
- GoalTino KadewereOlympique Lyonnais
GOOOAAAALLLL!!! The hero from last November's derby strikes again! Saint-Etienne defence too feeble in dealing with the corner and Kadewere is able to slot home from close range.
Depay whips in a delivery from the left and Mendes just about manages to get a head on it but that cross was very fast to be fair.
Dubois' free-kick delivery isn't particularly threatening but it eventually falls to Guimaraes, who has a shot deflected wide.
SAVED!! Now it's Depay's turn to bamboozle the Saint-Etienne defence. This time the shot is on target and Moulin reacts well to parry it away.
Great feet from Kadewere to get out of a tight position and get a shot away, but it's not close to the target.
CHANCE!! Golden opportunity for the home side already! Great work by Hamouma down the left, he gets the cross away and it's cleared to Moueffek whose sidefooted shot goes wide. He probably had more space than he realised!

KICK-OFF: Saint-Etienne get the match underway!
Words of motivation from Lyon native and former Les Gones striker Karim Benzema!
Saint-Etienne's Romain Hamouma clearly enjoys derby day! Will he deliver again for Claude Puel's men tonight?
Lyon star Memphis Depay is also a very keen rapper, doing so in both English & Dutch. He's not too bad either!
The Rhône derby is one of the most hostile rivalries in French football so the rarity of transfers between the two clubs is very understandable.
There has been a few players who have made an impact for both Lyon and Sainté in their career though...
Perhaps forgetting there's a whole pandemic going on, the Lyon ultras were in full force to give their players a big send-off ahead of the derby!
LYON TEAM NEWS
Despite also losing by a 1-0 scoreline last weekend, Lyon only make one change to their starting XI.
That solitary change sees Bruno Guimarães come in for Lucas Paquetá in the midfield trio, who is suspended. Houssem Aouar and Maxwel Cornet are both notable absentees due to injury.
New signing Islam Slimani makes the bench. He'll have a hard time displacing the front three of Kadewere, Depay and Toko-Ekambi, who have 27 goals between them in Ligue 1 so far this season.
SAINT-ETIENNE TEAM NEWS
In light of eight players being out due to injury or self-isolation, the home side make four changes to the team which started last week's 1-0 loss to Strasbourg.
Vice-captain Romain Hamouma and academy graduate Charles Abi replace Jean-Philippe Krasso and Arnaud Nordin as the strike duo, while Braga loanee Yvan Neyou comes in for Ryad Boudebouz in midfield.
Neyou makes an already inexperienced midfield even more youthful, joining two teenagers and a 20 year-old in the XI.
Good evening and welcome to our coverage of the Rhône-Alpes derby between Olympique Lyonnais and Saint-Étienne in Ligue 1.
Lyon are currently in 3rd - five points beyond PSG and Lille. Meanwhile, Saint-Étienne are hovering above the relegation zone in 16th.
They last played each other in early November, when Lyon ran out 2-1 winners at home thanks to a brace from Tino Kadewere.
