Real Madrid have confirmed that left-back Marcelo has signed a contract extension.
Marcelo, 29, is now contracted to the European Champions until the summer of 2022.
The Brazil international is widely regarded as the world’s leading left-back, with his attacking style of play being a major asset for Los Blancos in their double-winning 2016-17 season.
Marcelo has started all three of Real’s La Liga matches this season and also featured in both legs of the successful Spanish Super Cup win over rivals Barcelona last month.
The 29-year-old has already spent a decade at the Madrid club, winning 17 trophies in that time.
But a red card in his most recent match against Levante means Marcelo will sit out the first two games of his new Real Madrid era. Madrid face Real Sociedad and Betis in their next two matches.
Marcelo has made 414 appearances in total for Real and with his contract extension can expect to overtake Roberto Carlos's tally of 527 as the foreign player with the most appearances for the club.
