Double trouble

Real Madrid are chasing a remarkable £90m “double raid” for Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen, according to The Sun. As the Champions League holders look the fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, their attentions have turned to Manchester United striker Rashford, while Tottenham midfielder Eriksen has been sounded out as Luka Modric’s potential successor.
Paper Round’s view: A transfer story bolt from the blue, but Real are always going to be linked with the biggest and best players around. Bringing in Rashford to replace Ronaldo would put immense pressure on the England international’s shoulders – a burden he does not need - though it’s no surprise to see Eriksen linked. The Dane oozes class, but Spurs will be desperate to hold onto their man, having lost Modric to Real in 2012.

Pog-back (again)

Paul Pogba has told friends at Juventus that he wants to leave Manchester United and re-join the Serie A champions, according to the Mirror, which ran the story on Tuesday’s back page. The Frenchman is said to be keen for a return after two unsettling years at Old Trafford, which has involved numerous reported fallouts with manager Jose Mourinho.
Paper Round’s view: The saga rumbles on. Something has to give, surely, eventually… However, it is difficult to see a player of Pogba’s calibre moving on in January so rumble on it shall until the summer. Hooray.

Summer Pulisic pursuit

After Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc ruled out selling Christian Pulisic in January, the Mirror reports that Chelsea and Liverpool are willing to wait until summer before pursuing the midfielder – dubbed the £70m-rated poster boy of American football by the paper.
Paper Round’s view: It appears Pulisic is Premier League-bound, but later rather than sooner. The 20-year-old is one of the hottest prospects going, and it will not be just Liverpool and Chelsea hoping to secure his services. That being said, if Dortmund maintain their fine start and win Bundesliga, he may feel it’s best to remain where he is.

‘Follow in Sancho’s footsteps’

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier, a product of Sporting Lisbon’s academy, says players should follow in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps and take the leap to play abroad. Sancho has broken into the England squad this season after impressing in Germany for Borussia Dortmund.
Dier said: “He's out of his comfort zone and he's living by himself in a foreign country. Those experiences are important for you to grow as a person.”
Paper Round’s view: It is a wonder that it has taken until 2018 for the value of playing abroad to be highlighted. Dier, of course, has proved a positive product of playing abroad, and now Sancho and Reiss Nelson are doing wonders for the notion. Let’s hope it’s the start of things to come – it will only aide their development.
