Benfica kept alive their hopes of clinching the Portuguese League title with a 1-0 victory at Estrela Amadora, closing the gap on leaders Porto to only one point.
Benfica midfielder Armando Petit got the goal with a deflected 30-metre free kick nine minutes from the time. Champions Porto, who suffered a 1-0 defeat at Sporting on Saturday, head the table with 52 points after 22 games and they meet Benfica at Lisbon's Luz Stadium after next weekend's international break.
Sporting are third on 46 points.
