The players are walking out on to the pitch now on this snowy day in the Midlands. You can share your thoughts on the match - or just how glad you are to be inside in the warm - by getting in touch with me via Tiwtter @tony_mabert.

Steven Fletcher has scored nine PL goals this season – one short of his record of 10 last season. It is 14 years since a Scottish player has reached double figures in consecutive seasons in the division – both Kevin Gallacher and Duncan Ferguson achieved this feat in 1996-97 and 1997-98. West Brom's top scorer, Shane Long, has five goals so far this term.

Today's referee is Lee Mason. The Bolton official is one of only two who are yet to show a red card in the Premier League this season - the other is Mark Halsey. Expect him to let the game breath as much as possible, which should help make for a good derby. Mind you, Mason was the man that sent off Wolves’ Karl Henry after his vicious tackle on Wigan’s Jordi Gomez in October 2010. Wolves have lost their last four PL matches with Mason in charge.

Roy Hodgson: "Mick has done a magnificent job at Wolves. Mick took them up and then stayed in the Premier League but then people want to see you move on even further and the expectations go up. Unfortunately when you bring teams up, the barrier gets raised and, if you don't bring the players in to match that, then it can be very difficult. The world of football is full of people who do good jobs taking their teams up and then losing their job because they can't do as well in the league above.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy: "People say these games or those games will decide the outcome of the season. I seem to remember being sat here last season, saying it might be the last kick of the season that it would go down to, maybe the last goal, the last point. That's how it turned out and maybe that will be the same again. These next few games are vitally important but it could go to the very last game, and it looks like it will because it is ever so tight in the bottom half of the table."

Interesting stats surrounding these two clubs compared to their positions a year ago. Hodgson took over at The Hawthorns on February 14 last year, with the Baggies five points clear of the relegation zone just as they are today. This time 12 months ago, Wolves were bottom of the table, and went on the survive on the final day of the season.

Head-to-head: This is the 148th Black Country derby in the league. As it stands, Wolves have won 52 to West Brom's 55. West Brom have won seven and lost only two of the last 12 meetings in all competitions against their local rivals, and four of their last six visits to Molineux. When they met at The Hawthorns back in October, the Baggies won 2-0.

Shane Long and Graham Dorrans have also both had fitness tests, but only make the West Brom bench. Long has been troubled by a back complaint and chest pains and has only been able to train on his own this week, while Dorrans is suffering from a hip problem. Manager Roy Hodgson gives first start to left-back Liam Ridgewell, though midfielder and fellow transfer deadline day signing Keith Andrews is only named among the substitutes. Chris Brunt (ankle) and Zoltan Gera (knee) are still out.

Central midfielders Jamie O'Hara (groin) and Dave Edwards (thigh) have both passed late fitness tests and start for Wolves. They are already without Emmanuel Frimpong, who returned to Arsenal after rupturing knee ligaments, and the suspended Karl Henry in that department of his side. Winger Michael Kightly (back) is also missing but right-back Kevin Foley has overcome an ankle problem and starts.

Wolves can pull themselves three points clear of the relegation zone if they win the latest instalment of the Black Country derby. West Brom are five points above that clutch of teams battling against the drop, but they could do with a victory to put some more daylight between them and the relegation mire.
