Chelsea plan to submit a £26 million bid for John Stones in the next 48 hours, according to The Mirror.

Blues to return for Stones - Everton rejected Chelsea's opening £20m bid and value Stones at £34m, which would set the British record for a defender. The Blues are undeterred, though, and plan to continue their pursuit of the 21-year-old.
Paper Round's view - Chelsea could use an upgrade in defence, and they definitely need to get younger players. Stones wouldn't make them better from the get-go, but he would certainly give them much-needed youth and it wouldn't be long before he's their best defender. Everton can't realistically think they're going to get £34m, but they have leverage so they will hold out for a big price. £26 million probably won't get it done.
Cuadrado will not leave Chelsea on loan - Chelsea will not let Juan Cuadrado go on loan. The Sun believe that the Blues want to offload the Colombian, but they will only do so as part of a permanent deal. Juventus want Cuadrado on loan, but Chelsea are looking for a £18m sale, even if that would be a £5m loss on what the Blues bought him for last season.

Paper Round's view - Cuadrado was supposed to give Chelsea some pace and attacking talent on the wing, but he was nothing of the sort and appears to have fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge. At this point, Chelsea just want to get a chunk of change back so they can reinvest it and buy a replacement. A loan wouldn't help so that doesn't make sense for the Blues.
Ayew took less money to join Villa - Jordan Ayew really wanted to join Aston Villa. The Sun understand that Ayew agreed to waive the 15 per cent of his transfer fee that he was due in order to keep Lorient from upping the price on him and encouraging them to take Aston Villa's offer. In the end, that cost Ayew £800,000, but at least he's landing at the club he wants.
Paper Round's view - It appeared as if Villa and Lorient had agreed to a deal, but then Lorient reportedly demanded even more money. You hope it wasn't because they knew Ayew would forfeit the 15 per cent he was due, but who knows. At this point, all you can do is cheer for Ayew and Villa because it'd be nice to see Ayew rewarded for this move.
Everton eyeing Van Dijk - Roberto Martinez is considering a move for Virgil van Dijk. The Mail claim that the Everton manager wants to add some help to his backline and may go after the defender. Celtic want £10m for van Dijk and the Toffees are willing to pay it, setting the stage for Everton to make a bid.

Paper Round's view - Everton definitely need to add at least one, if not two central defenders. Sylvain Distin is off to Bournemouth and Chelsea are chasing Stones so the Toffees are already short on numbers in the middle of the back line and may be even shorter before long. Van Dijk is big, strong and just 24 years old so that's not a bad addition.
