Paper Round: Pep Guardiola eyeing Paul Pogba, John Stones for Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has made Paul Pogba and John Stones his top targets for the summer, according to The Mail. The Spaniard wants to bring both to Manchester City and is willing to spend £80 million on Pogba, with another £50m on Stones. Lionel Messi is unlikely to land at the Etihad, so Guardiola is turning his attention to Pogba and Stones. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all expected to be in the running for both players, but City believe that Guardiola can help them get their men.

Paper Round's view - Guardiola's system requires a slew of central midfielders and ball-playing central defenders. Unfortunately for Man City, they don't have many of either, so Guardiola has a lot of work ahead of him. He'll have to both make a number of moves in the transfer market and adjust the system and players to make the best of what he has. Pogba is arguably the best central midfielder in the world and Stones is one of the more promising defenders, while both are young. If City are going to spend big, Pogba and Stones are where they should spend.

John Terry has decided that he will end his Chelsea career this summer. The Star claim that Terry is ready to sign a pre-contract elsewhere and will not return to Stamford Bridge, even if the Blues have a change of heart and try to bring him back. It doesn't matter who Chelsea's next manager is and how badly he may want Terry to stay on, the defender will not return. Clubs from the USA, China, Qatar and Turkey have all shown interest in signing Terry, as has Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan.

Paper Round's view - It didn't make much sense for Chelsea to tell Terry his future was in doubt this early and Terry was right to be miffed by how it was all handled. If the Blues wanted to let him go in the summer, they could make that decision then. They would have their new manager then and a better idea of where their squad is at. Maybe Terry would have signed a pre-contract before then, but nothing would have been lost. Instead, they will miss out on the possibility of having an option of keeping him.

Leicester have put forth a new contract offer to Jamie Vardy that would see him earn a huge bonus if the Foxes make the Champions League, per The Mirror. Leicester have been trying to get Vardy on a new deal for months and are especially eager to secure his future with several other clubs reportedly interested in signing him this summer. Vardy currently makes £45,000-per-week in a deal that takes him through 2018, but the new deal will increase that, offer much more should the Foxes finish in the top four, and keep him at the club until 2019.

Paper Round's view - Leicester have to keep Vardy. They can't have their star leave right after he helped them make a shock title challenge, and maybe even win the league. They don't have the money of some other clubs who will be interested in the striker so the base wages offered to Vardy probably won't be especially competitive, but if the Champions League bonuses are gigantic, it could make financial sense for him to stay at Leicester. With the way the club is playing, a top-four finish looks extremely likely and Vardy may be willing to bet on the team finishing strong.

Yaya Toure has a lucrative avenue out of Manchester City. The Telegraph understand that the midfielder will be offered a £30m-per-year contract to join a club in China. That £30m would be his salary after tax, leaving him with over £575,000-per-week in his pocket. Three different clubs have reached out to Toure about bringing him on, with Jiangsu Suning the side offering him the monster contract. Toure wants to stay at Manchester City, though.

Paper Round's view - Guardiola's move to Manchester City looks likely to end Toure's time at the Etihad. Toure left Barcelona while Guardiola was the manager there in 2010 and, frankly, Toure is a terrible fit for Guardiola's system. He doesn't have the legs to do the running necessary in the central midfield of Guardiola's team. It would be a surprise if Toure was at the Etihad next season, even if he wants to stay, and if he can cash £30m every year then that's not a bad way out.

Manuel Pellegrini could go from Manchester City to Paris Saint-Germain. The Mirror say that the manager is a candidate to take over at the Parc des Princes in the summer. Laurent Blanc has led PSG to an unbeaten season thus far, but there are rumours that he may not return next season. That decision is expected to be made in the next couple weeks and if Blanc does depart then Pellegrini might be in.

Paper Round's view - Pellegrini is a terrific manager and he will not be out of work for long. The question is where he goes. He's good enough for any club in the world and PSG may not be in the upper echelon of clubs, but they aim to be and have more than enough money to get there. If Blanc is not their manager next season, they will undoubtedly go after a well-regarded, proven person to replace him and Pellegrini fits the bill.
