Mauricio Pochettino makes Spurs sweat on new deal as United ponder swoop

The Sun are reporting that Tottenham are nervous over manager Mauricio Pochettino's delay in signing a new contract, as they're convinced United will make him their replacement for Louis Van Gaal if Jose Mourinho goes to Paris Saint-Germain. The report says Spurs have been waiting for weeks to have Poch sign on the dotted line, with the offer being a five-year contract extension worth £5 million a year plus bonuses. The club are edgy that PSG's sudden interest in potential Van Gaal successor Mourinho, may start a chain reaction which could see their Argentine manager head to Old Trafford.
Paper Round's view: It is doubtful that Pochettino would leave Tottenham in the short term. He is destined for bigger and better things, but not at the moment. There's still work to do and wouldn't be surprised if the title race is the priority, not his contract.

Riyad Mahrez is Arsenal's top summer target

Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez is set be right at the very top of Arsene Wenger's summer wishlist, according to The Sun. The report says Wenger will make way for Mahrez by clearing out under performing players like Theo Walcott, and that Wenger had previously turned down the chance to sign Mahrez from Le Havre due to supporters expecting big-name signatures.

Paper Round's view: Exactly what Arsenal have neglected to do for a few seasons, clear out the deadwood and replace them with those willing to buy into the cause. Mahrez might set them back around £25 million, but we've learned over the course of the season he's worth every penny.

Chelsea set to sign 16-year-old Ajax midfielder Juan Familia Castillo

The Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea are in the final stages of signing teen Ajax midfielder Juan Familia Castillo. He is the Dutch U16 captain who plays either in central midfield or on the left and was a target for Manchester United before being persuaded on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Paper Round's view: The kid has good pedigree (Ajax academy, youth international caps), but it'll be a few years before he's even in first-team contention. The challenge for Chelsea is not hoarding all these prospects so they never get a go - they must formulate a clear path to first-team football or the careers of these footballers will stagnate.

Quique Sanchez Flores in danger of Watford axe

The Mail are also reporting that Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores could be facing the sack, as his side has hit a massive slump in form since the turn of the year. Despite their place in the FA Cup semi-final, the club has won just three times in 2016 and have slipped to 12th on the table after being as high as 7th mid-season. There are also some questions being raised with how Flores is dealing with the drop in form and his training methods.

Paper Round's view: While all this is quite premature, fair enough that the club sees this as a potential threat. There is a chance form like this could carry on through the summer, and such a lax mentality could have them in a relegation battle next season.
