Everton were preparing to become the 13th club to break their transfer window this summer, before Moussa Sissoko agreed to join Tottenham from Newcastle for £30m.

Sissoko looked likely to join Everton on Wednesday evening but then Tottenham firmed up their interest with a rival £30m bid for the 27-year-old France international, who impressed in the latter stages of Euro 2016.
With 30 minutes remaining in the window, Everton withdrew their interest in Sissoko, leaving Spurs racing against the clock to get the deal done.
The deal was confirmed, first by Sissoko and then 45 minutes past the deadline by Tottenham, who revealed Sissoko had signed a five-year deal and taken the number 17 shirt.

Champions League football is thought to have played a big part in Sissoko's decision.
Earlier in the summer, the player, who was desperate to escape relegated Newcastle, described Spurs' rivals Arsenal as "the club of my heart".
He said before the Euros:
Everyone knows, I often said it when I was young, Arsenal is the club of my heart, because there were quite a few French players there like Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Sylvain Wiltord, Patrick Vieira who was my idol… The beautiful Arsenal.
Sissoko is believed to have angered Everton with his late change of mind.
Newcastle have reinforced on deadline day though, with Chelsea winger Christian Atsu joining on loan.
