Andre Gray wants to move on after serving ban

Burnley striker Andre Gray wants to move on with his career after serving a four-match ban for highly-offensive social media posts.

The 25-year-old has come a long way since plying his trade at Hinckley Town, but comments made during those non-league days returned to haunt him.

Last month Gray was charged by the Football Association for bringing the game into disrepute for offensive tweets made in 2012, some of which contained homophobic language.

The Clarets striker publicly apologised for the content of posts that were condemned by his employers, with the governing body handing down a four-match ban and £25,000 fine, as well as a warning as to his future conduct and order to attend an FA education course.

Gray had six weeks to stew on his behaviour and now wants to let his football do the talking after helping Burnley secure a 0-0 draw at Manchester United on Saturday.

"It's been difficult," he said. "I've been training and having to do extras.

"It's hard because you want to be playing. I've just kept my head down, really, tried to stay fit and just got on with it.

"It's like the gaffer said - it's what comes with the territory. It's where I wanted to be and it's just one of those things.

"I'm glad it's over with. It's obviously a long time ago now so it's been frustrating.

"It is what it is at the end of the day so I've just got to get on with it and keep my head down.

"I've come here to play football and play at the highest level, so it was just another bump in the road.

"It's over with now and I'm just going to move on with my career."

Gray admits the lack of match fitness caught up with him a little towards the end of Saturday's draw at Old Trafford, where Burnley had to dig deep to hold out for a point against United.

It was the first away point for Sean Dyche's men this season and a performance to build on.

"We got promoted last year so there were a couple of good results there but this is the biggest crowd that I've played in front of and to come here and get a result is fantastic," Gray said.

"Nobody has given us a prayer so far and they probably won't until that last game is done and we've stayed up.

"To come here and get a result against all the odds proves that we're ready and we're going to fight for it.

"There are a lot of positives to take out of it. To get the three points last week against Everton and get a point against Man United is brilliant."
