Paper Round: England's three-man shortlist for next manager

Eddie Howe, Arsene Wenger and Gareth Southgate are on shortlist for the England job, according to the Mirror. The report says that Bournemouth boss Howe is firmly in the running despite being only 38, after describing the potential of landing the role as the "ultimate job". It comes as FA chiefs want to speak to Arsene Wenger to see if he's interested in moving on from Arsenal, while the Under 21s boss and now England caretaker Southgate will have a four game "audition" to get the job on a permanent basis.

Paper Round's view: There is a contingent of people that are concerned with having Arsene Wenger on the shortlist, which is incredibly bemusing considering he's possibly the most talented manager near the position in decades. Howe is still probably too young and has a lot of ground to make up, and Southgate embodies everything about the old guard. The FA need to be bold and appoint Arsene Wenger as the next English manager - if they can prise him away from Arsenal.

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin is under pressure to deliver according to the Daily Mail, as his job hangs in the balance. As his side prepare to take on Liverpool, the former Udinese boss has to get a result against Liverpool as the club are only one place above the relegation zone. As former United great Ryan Giggs has been linked to the role, Guidolin must get a result from the home fixture to keep his job for another week.

Paper Round's view: Swansea's position is perhaps a little less perilous than Stoke's or West Ham's at the moment, but it's still not ideal. Their two strike-force summer signings in Fernando Llorente and Borja Baston need to start hitting the scoreboard, as the club has put in strong performances but has failed to finish off chances when they come.

Southampton assistant and former Villa interim manager Eric Black, has been named in the Telegraph as being caught up in a bribery scandal. The report says that Black was filmed offering advice on giving bribes to officials at other clubs during conversations about signing players. Black allegedly said that 'a couple of grand' would be enough for a rival club's colleague to pass on information. Black denied the claims and Southampton issued a statement saying it would investigate them.

Paper Round's view: This ongoing saga shows that internally, something very rotten is at the heart of English football. While over the years people have looked to impropriety in places like Italy and Spain, English football has it's own culture problem it has to deal with.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino currently has four active cases under review by football authorities, according to the Daily Mail. The report comes as Cellino was found mid-week in Telegraph investigations proposing a way to bypass third-party rules. Cellino is also being looked into over the loan of Adryan at Cagliari from Flamengo, an alleged £185,000 illegal payment to an unlicensed agent and a sex discrimination and unfair dismissal case against a former club employee.

Round's view: Cellino has always been flamboyant and a showman, but one must consider how long he should be allowed to remain as owner of the club. Leeds fans are set to protest against corruption and the Italian on Saturday before their Yorkshire derby and will accusations like this emerging, it is understandable.
