Liverpool identify Can replacement

We start across with an exclusive from The Sun which says that Liverpool have identified Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook as a replacement for Emre Can, who is set to join Juventus on a free transfer this summer. The report says the Reds have been tracking Cook since he left Leeds to join Bournemouth and are convinced he is the man to replace Can with a fee of £20million suggested.
Paper Round's view: Cook has the honour of being the only England captain bar Sir Bobby Moore to lift a World Cup at any age group and his progress this season has been impressive. On that basis it seems likely that Bournemouth will demand an even higher fee for a talented young English midfielder, even if he's about to enter the final 24 months of his contract.

Pardew given one more game

We now move to The Guardian where it is reported that Alan Pardew has been given one more week to save his job by the West Brom board after a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town. The Baggies' form under Pardew has not improved since the firing of Tony Pulis and defeat at home to Watford next Saturday could bring about the end of Pardew's reign at the Hawthorns.
Paper Round's view: As the Guardian piece quite rightly points out there aren't too many obvious candidates who could drag West Brom out of this situation and who would be available right now. However something has to change, West Brom have won just one of the 14 matches Pardew has presided over and that doesn't look like changing...

Spurs in talks to sign Brooks

Another exclusive in The Sun reports that Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign David Brooks and have begun negotiations with Sheffield United over a deal for the 20-year-old forward that could be worth £10 million plus extras. The report says that Spurs see Brooks as a potential long-term replacement for Harry Kane.
Paper Round's view: Putting aside the extreme pressure of labelling brooks as 'The Next Harry Kane' this actually looks like a really sensible move. Spurs had great success at nurturing Dele Alli and given Mauricio Pochettino's record at developing young players it seems logical to target some of the best lower league talent.

Conte and Mourinho make up

We end with a report from Old Trafford which has quotes from both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte who have said that their war of words is over. The pair shook hands before and after Manchester United's 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday and stressed to the media that they wanted to move on.
Paper Round's view: It's best for everyone now if we just move on. It was great fun for a few months, especially in a season where this is no title race to talk of, but the top-four race is going to be fascinating in the final few months of the season, not to mention the five English sides left in the Champions League. So let's all focus on that now shall we?
