- End of 2nd Half
Brighton win their second consecutive home game, Tomar Hemed's goal enough to seal the three points over fellow newly-promoted Newcastle.
- Yellow cardJamaal LascellesNewcastle United
Lascelles goes into the book for a professional foul and that should enough to get Brighton over the line...
Gayle, on the turn, shoots straight at Ryan. It isn't going to be Newcastle's day...
Newcastle have THREE more minutes to find an equaliser.
Shelvey sees his shot bravely blocked by Dunk on the edge of the area.
Into the final minute of normal time now.
Sky Sports have given the man of the match award to Brighton's goalscorer Hemed. No surprise there.
Desperate, effective defending from Brighton as they deal with the corner delivery.
Merino releases Shelvey at the by-line, but his cross is headed out for a corner. Newcastle are heaping on the pressure now!
GAMEZ GOES CLOSE!
With his first touch, Gamez almost levels the scores! He is allowed time and space to have a crack at goal from the edge of the area and it goes just wide of goal.
- OffChancel MbembaNewcastle United
- OnJesús GámezNewcastle United
Mbemba is replaced by Jesus Gamez. Time is running out for the visitors, but can the substitute make an immediate impact?
- OffAnthony KnockaertBrighton & Hove Albion
- OnJamie MurphyBrighton & Hove Albion
Jamie Murphy takes the place of Knockaert as Hughton looks to shore things up in midfield.
A decent cross is sent into the Brighton penalty area which Shelvey does well to nod on for Atsu at the back post but the Newcastle midfielder cannot generate enough power on his half-volley to test Ryan.
Shelvey curls his free-kick well over the bar. Disappointing from the visitors' point of view.
- Yellow cardShane DuffyBrighton & Hove Albion
Perez is taken out by Duffy's as he looks to run onto Ritchie's exchange pass. The Brighton defender receives a booking and Newcastle have another free-kick in dangerous territory.
OFF THE POST!
Shelvey strikes the woodwork - from a corner! Ryan may just get a hand to it, but Brighton are lucky to have their clean sheet intact regardless.
The substitutes try to make an immediate impact as Shelvey tries to find Gayle with a long punt forward, forcing Dunk into conceding a corner.
- OffJoseluNewcastle United
- OnDwight GayleNewcastle United
A second change for the visitors, Gayle replacing Joselu in attack.
Nice link-up play from Yedlin and Perez down the right side but the former just overruns the ball and Brighton have a goal-kick.
- OffIsaac HaydenNewcastle United
- OnJonjo ShelveyNewcastle United
Club captain Jonjo Shelvey replaces Hayden in the visitors' midfield.
Too casual from Dunk who gifts the ball straight to Perez inside his own half. The Newcastle forward feeds Ritchie who screws his shot well wide of the goal.
The visitors can't trouble Brighton with the subsequent set-piece and will have to go back to the drawing board.
MERINO GOES CLOSE!
Ritchie smashes his free-kick straight into the wall, but it comes back to Merino who tries his luck from 25 yards, the shot takes a deflection off Duffy and goes narrowly over the bar.
So close to an equaliser.
Clever play from Ritchie as he draws the foul from Suttner and now Newcastle have a free-kick in a dangerous area.
Mo Diame, Dwight Gayle and Jonjo Shelvey are all on the Newcastle bench, so plenty of options for Benitez to choose from.
Newcastle have barely touched the ball in the second half and surely it is only a matter of time before Benitez makes a change.
Brighton have the momentum and Hughton will demand a second goal which should kill the game.
ELLIOT SAVES ON THE LINE!
So close to a Brighton second! Bruno delivers a lovely cross to the back post towards March who is at full-stretch to send the ball towards goal, but Elliot saves the ball on the line with his outstretched leg!
In terms of this game, that was exactly what the doctor ordered. It will be interesting to see if Benitez changes the Newcastle system in a bid to find the equaliser.
- GoalTomer HemedBrighton & Hove Albion
GOAL - HEMED PUTS BRIGHTON AHEAD!
Newcastle are caught out from a clever set-piece. Gross's free-kick picks out Stephens who peels off his marker at the back post, nodding the ball into the path of Hemed who flicks it into the top corner to give the hosts the lead!
Hemed does well to win a free-kick for Brighton, slightly to the left of the pitch - a good position to cross the ball in...
It appears Brighton have altered their game plan slightly for the second period, as they are playing a more direct style of football, hoping to pump the ball into the Newcastle penalty box from deep.
Action from the first half...
It is 26 years since Brighton last managed to beat Newcastle on their own home patch.
- 2nd Half
The second half begins and it is as you were in terms of personnel.
I told you that there was a lack of quality in the final third...
- End of 1st Half
A fairly even first-half comes to an end with the teams level at the break. Brighton have had the majority of possession but it was the visitors who created the best opportunity, Joselu missing the target from only a few yards out.
Brighton win a free-kick which is pumped into the visitors' penalty area. Duffy rises highest to nod it onto the back post, but it just evades Hemed!
One minute will be added on at the end of the first half.
Atsu pulls a lovely ball across the face of goal but it evades the out-stretched Ritchie and Suttner clears.
Experienced defending from Bruno as he watches the run of Mbemba all of the way, making a crucial challenge inside his penalty area and also winning the goal-kick.
Plenty of endeavour from both sides, but there has been a lack of quality shown in the final third.
WATCH: JOSELU'S MISS
Ritchie steps up to take the free-kick he won... but it is a straight forward catch for Ryan.
Lovely football from Newcastle, Ritchie playing a give-and-go with a team mate but is fouled by Gross as he looks to receive the exchange pass. The visitors have a free-kick in a dangerous area now, around 30 yards out.
There are 10 minutes left of a fairly even first half, can either side take the initiative before the interval?
After a lively Brighton attack, Gross' cross can't beat the first defender at the near post and the move collapses.
PEREZ SHOOTS OVER!
Merino surges into the penalty area, feeding Perez whose first-time effort is ballooned miles over the bar.
Still, Brighton are looking rather nervous defensively.
Knockaert delivers a cross to the back post, aiming for March, but under pressure from Ritchie he can only head it out for a goal-kick.
Ironic cheers from the Brighton fans as Perez's effort is closer to the corner flag than goal. Still not sure if that was a cross or a shot.
The hosts are dominating possession, but Hughton will be disappointed that his side have not really tested Elliot in the Newcastle goal.
Elliot comes for the free-kick delivery, but doesn't make a convincing punch on the ball. Stephens sends the ball back across the face of goal, but Newcastle get it away.
Yedlin wrestles March to the floor and Andre Marriner signals for a Brighton free-kick, on the left channel.
Newcastle fail to capitalise on the mistake as the subsequent set-piece is disappointing.
Atsu has pace to burn as he drives forward on the left channel. His cross to the near post is cleared by Duffy but it smacks off his team mate Bruno and goes out for a Newcastle corner.
INCHES WIDE FROM JOSELU!
A brilliant counter-attack from Newcastle almost culminates in a goal for the visitors. Dunk fails to clear from Perez's clever cut-back and the loose ball falls kindly for Joselu who screws a low shot inches wide from only a matter of yards.
That was Newcastle's best chance thus far.
Newcastle's full-backs are all over the place once again as Suttner is released on the channel, but his cross goes out for a goal-kick.
Bruno finds Knockaert with his throw-in, but the Brighton playmaker slices his cross and it ends up in row-Z.
The hosts are just lacking that quality in the final third at the moment.
Brighton are finding plenty of space on the channels, with March once again whipping a cross in from the left. But again it is too close to Elliot.
March curls a dangerous cross just in front of Elliot, who does well to palm it out of danger.
Brighton are beginning to take control.
- Yellow cardAnthony KnockaertBrighton & Hove Albion
Knockaert drags down Atsu on the right, conceding a free-kick and receiving a booking.
How unfortunate for the hosts.
GREAT CHANCE GOES BEGGING FOR BRIGHTON!
Knockaert races forward, picking out March on the overlap. His low cross is deflected to Gross in space but his goal-bound half-volley smacks off his own team mate and out of play, denying Brighton a certain opener!
Elliot is alert to charge down a long ball pumped out from Brighton's defence, the Newcastle goalkeeper hoofing it into the stands.
Brighton break forward at rapid speed, Hemed being fed on the left channel. He has team mates either side in support but opts to shoot from 25 yards and in the end it's an easy save for Elliot.
HEMED HEADS OVER!
Gross finds himself in space on the left for Brighton, he twists away from a defender, whipping a cross to the near post but Hemed steers his header well over the bar.
Chaotic scenes down at the other end as Newcastle make a mess of clearing the home side's corner! Eventually, after some pinball, they manage to hack it away from danger.
NEWCASTLE GO CLOSE!
Merino is picked out on the edge of the box from the corner and his first-time volley forces a great reaction save from Ryan!
Joselu slaps the ground in pain after taking a heavy tackle from behind with Duffy making his mark on the Newcastle front man early on.
The visitors pump the ball into the penalty area and Brighton do well to concede a corner.
Andre Marriner is today's referee.
- 1st Half
We're underway! Newcastle are in their black away strip, Brighton in their traditional blue and white.
The teams make their way out onto the pitch, meaning kick-off is only moments away...
FIVE MINUTES UNTIL KICK-OFF!
A reminder of the teams...
Brighton: Ryan, Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Suttner, Knockaert, Stephens, Propper, March, Gross, Hemed. Subs: Krul, Hunemeier, Murphy, Izquierdo, Schelotto, Rosenior, Brown.
Newcastle: Elliot, Yedlin, Clark, Lascelles, Mbemba, Hayden, Merino, Atsu, Perez, Ritchie, Joselu. Subs: Darlow, Murphy, Shelvey, Gayle, Diame, Manquillo, Gamez.
Pascal Gross is Brighton's danger man, the German has been involved in all four of Brighton's Premier League goals this season, with two goals and two assists.
- This is the first-ever top-flight meeting between the clubs.
- Newcastle were the only team to do the double over the Seagulls in last season's Championship, including scoring two goals in the last 10 minutes to win 2-1 at Brighton.
- Brighton's only Premier League victory so far this season came in their last home game, when they beat West Brom 3-1.
- After beginning the Premier League season with back-to-back defeats, Newcastle have now won their last three matches.
Overcoming Newcastle will be no easy task, however. The Magpies have won each of their last three Premier Leagues, beating West Ham, Swansea and Stoke as they climbed to a dizzy height of seventh place in the table. Benitez is hoping for another victory today.
"We are in a good position, we have momentum. We have confidence that we can get three points and Brighton will have the same feeling," Benitez said.
Brighton are just outside of the relegation zone at the moment, having accrued four points from their opening five games. And while Hughton's side have done OK thus far, he has to be targeting all three points at home to the likes of Newcastle in the battle to survive.
"As a side and a way that they play, Newcastle are reasonably similar to ourselves and perhaps that is why they were close games last season," Hughton said.
"We are at home and we have to try and capitalise on our home form, but we know that we are up against a very good Newcastle side that are in good form."
Newcastle have won each of their last four games at the Amex...
As for the visitors, well Hughton makes just the one change from the side that lost 2-1 to Bournemouth, with Bruno returning to replace Liam Rosenior in defence.
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Kruel is on the bench.
Benitez names the same starting line-up that overcame Stoke 2-1 last weekend, meaning club captain Jonjo Shelvey is on the bench, alongside striker Dwight Gayle.

Hello and welcome to our LIVE text commentary of the battle of the new boys, Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United.
Having been beaten to the Championship title last season, Albion boss Chris Hughton will see this as a perfect opportunity to seek revenge on his former employers and move further from the relegation zone in the process.
But it won't be an easy task, Rafa Benitez's side have started well and can move into the top four with victory.
