It's been a record-breaking day for Rooney

Off-the-ball, Baines is not happy after appearing to get a blow to the head in a tussle with Shaqiri.


Pieters with a brilliant low cross into the box which just evades Bojan and Diouf, he's not happy that no-one attacked the ball.

HALF TIME: After 44 minutes of mediocre football, Rooney lead with a stoppage time header from Rooney. He's back in blue and he's back on the scoresheet.


Rooney started the move off, trading passes with Gueye before finding Sandro. The ball was played out to the right for Calvert-Lewin who produced a brilliant cross for Rooney to head the ball into the centre of the goal.

It has been a half of very few chances, don't be surprised if Koeman makes a few tweaks at the break.


Gueye concedes a free-kick after pulling back Bojan. The delivery is pinged into the box but Everton clear the danger.


Calvert-Lewin wins a corner off Pieters on the right flank. The delivery from Rooney is flicked on by Jagielka but Williams is penalised for a push.


Baines goes on a mazy run from inside his half, it falls to Sandro whose cross is blocked. That sums up the home side's play, their radar has been off.


Bojan picks up the ball 25 yards out and from a tight angle blazes his effort over, that was always rising.


Stoke have a corner after Schneiderlin puts a cross behind. The delivery is headed clear by Rooney, who has done a good job with his defensive duties from set-pieces.


Allen is walking a tightrope, he concedes another free-kick after tripping Gueye then gives the referee a piece of his mind.

Shaqiri is furious that he is denied a free-kick after having his shirt pulled by the tireless Gueye on the edge of the box, he may have a point.


Berahino, making his 14th appearance for Stoke, has looked isolated as a lone striker. It's a big season for him.


A blast from the past..


We have reached the midway point of the first period. It's been quiet in comparison to the Arsenal and Liverpool games but Everton have looked the more likely to score.


CHANCE FOR GUEYE! The Senagalese midfielder skips past Bojan and fires in a low effort from distance which is straight at Butland.


You get the impression that it will take time for Everton to bed in their new players. Rooney has dropped deep to pick up the ball and get involved but Klaassen has been quiet.


Stoke have a promising move. Shaqiri with a few stepovers and dummies around the box but Everton do well to handle the danger without the need to dive in with a challenge.


Williams with a good block to keep out Shaqiri's drive from the edge of the area.


CHANCE! Rooney tees up Sandro who runs across goal before firing in a low shot from outside the area which goes wide.


Diouf collides with the advertising hoardings after his cross was palmed behind by Pickford for a corner. The set piece from Shaqiri is headed clear by Rooney.


The visitors have begun brightly and are coming here to attack.


Sandro picks up a nasty knock on his ankle under a challenge from Bojan but looks okay to continue.


Woeful long ball from Jagielka which is nowhere near Rooney and goes out for a goal kick. Everton have yet to settle.

Stoke, who lost 1-0 to Everton in March, are missing long-term absentees Ibrahim Afellay (knee) and Stephen Ireland (broken leg).


Everton have spent big but have a string of players out with injury. Midfielders Ross Barkley and James McCarthy, whose futures have both been the subject of speculation this summer, are unavailable while Yannick Bolasie (knee), Seamus Coleman (broken leg) and Ramiro Funes Mori (knee) will miss the start of the campaign.


Summer signings Darren Fletcher and Kurt Zouma start for Mark Hughes' side.
