Harry Kane's 95th-minute penalty capped a staggering finale as Tottenham earned a dramatic 2-2 draw at Liverpool.
The England striker converted with virtually the last kick of the game to net his 100th top-flight goal, just minutes after seeing a spot kick saved by Loris Karius when the score was 1-1.
Kane's miss appeared to have been punished by Mohamed Salah who fired home his second of the evening after a mazy penalty-box dribble on 90 minutes.
The Egyptian had earlier opened the scoring on just three minutes when he became the fastest ever Liverpool player to notch 20 league goals in the Premier League era.
However, Tottenham improved after the break and substitute Victor Wanyama's thunderbolt 10 minutes from time levelled matters - and was the catalyst for a barnstorming finish.
The result means Liverpool remain third and are a point ahead of Chelsea who have played a game less. Tottenham stay fifth and are now just one point adrift of the top four.

TALKING POINT

Salah is sensational, but Liverpool fume over penalties as they fail to see out another game. Few would have expected Salah to have had such a massive influence in his first season at Liverpool. The Egyptian has come a long way since he struggled to make a big enough impact at Chelsea. He is now only the fifth Reds player to have scored 20+ times in a Premier League season and is officially the fastest to that milestone. In the current market, Salah is probably worth four times the £34m the Merseysiders paid for him in the summer and will no doubt be in the running for the individual player of the year awards. The Reds can be bewitching in attack, but they continue to wobble when trying to hang onto a lead. Twice they let it slip, conceding two controversial penalties along the way with £75m defender Virgil van Dijk and Karius both culpable. Jurgen Klopp will question two big decisions by the referee and his assistant to award the spot kicks and the debate will continue to rage in the coming days - but at the end of it all the Merseysiders needed more composure to see out the last couple of minutes once Salah had netted his second.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool). The forward now has 21 league goals and continues to reach new heights. Remained a real threat on the counter attack with his pace and showed he can spring into life at any point in a match with his late solo effort when Spurs had the momentum.

KEY MOMENTS

3' - GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham. Salah nets his 20th PL goal in 25 appearances! Spurs struggle to deal with Firmino and Dier's weak touch back is seized upon by Salah, who races into the box to easily steer beyond Lloris.
22' - LIVERPOOL CHANCE! It should be two. Alexander-Arnold whips a sublime cross in from the right for Firmino, who guides a free header wide of the far post.
58' - TOTTENHAM CHANCE! Son bursts onto Alli's flick and surges towards goal on the left of the area. Karius comes out and produces a superb stop. The rebound falls for Alli who can only fire wide from 20 yards.
69' ALLI BOOKED FOR DIVING. Oh dear - the England midfielder takes a theatrical tumble inside the box. Lovren, the nearest Liverpool defender, is livid and ref Jon Moss shows a yellow card.
80' - GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham. Wanyama thunders a stunning 25-yard drive into the top corner after Karius had punched Eriksen's cross into the Kenyan's path.
87' - TOTTENHAM PENALTY SAVED! Kane sees his spot-kick saved by Karius after the keeper was adjudged to have brought the forward down. The officials had a long chat about the award, but appear to have got it right in the end.
90+1' - GOAL! Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham. Salah scores again! He wriggles beyond two on the right of the area and lifts a delightful finish over the keeper.
90+4' - GOAL! Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham. This time Kane makes no mistake from the spot after van Dijk was penalised for fouling Lamela. The forward fires low into the right corner he is facing. That's 100 PL goals for him and rescues a deserved point for the visitors. Interestingly, the assistant gave that penalty. It was the right call, but Jon Moss had initially waved away the appeals.
