Dave saves, but will he sign?

David de Gea is waiting for Manchester United to offer a £300,000-a-week contract before committing his long-term future to the club – the Daily Mail reports. The United goalkeeper proved his class with a man-of-the-match display in Sunday’s win at Tottenham, and though he is tied down at Old Trafford until 2020, the Spaniard is keen for an improvement on his current £200,000-a-week contract before signing.
Paper Round’s view: Alexis Sanchez reportedly earns anything from £350,000 to £600,000 a week. This is a no-brainer.

Hazard's price-tag

Chelsea will ask for upwards of £100m if Eden Hazard tells the club he wants a move to Real in Madrid in the summer, by which point the Belgian will have just one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge – the Telegraph reports. The playmaker is hopeful Real will make their summer intentions clear this month, with Chelsea also keen to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
Paper Round’s view: It’s always a game of comparisons in the transfer market, and with Chelsea paying £58m for Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic – who will join the Blues this summer with one year remaining on his current contract – you would have to say the £100m valuation is more than fair. Real, meanwhile, may also deem that worthwhile in their search for a much-needed Galactico.

Ole in pole position

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been propelled to favourite for the permanent manager’s job at Manchester United after steering the club to six straight wins as interim boss – the Sun reports. Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is said to have visited the Wembley dressing room after United’s record-breaking win over Spurs to congratulate Solskjaer, while the Norwegian’s ability to get the best out of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford is also impressing the club’s hierarchy.
Paper Round’s view: After surpassing Sir Matt Busby’s record to win his opening six matches, Solskjaer is very much the man of the moment at Old Trafford. The club would be wise to remain calm and let the season play out, and analyse how he and the players react when things are not going their way. How they come out the other side of a bad patch will be the true test.

Paredes agrees terms at Chelsea

Chelsea are closing in on their replacement for Cesc Fabregas after agreeing terms with Zenit midfielder Leandro Paredes – the Mirror reports. Zenit are said to fear Paredes will go on strike if the deal doesn’t go through, with a Chelsea said to be offering £27m to secure the 24-year-old’s services.
Paper Round’s view: Must confess to having not match much of the Russian Premier League this season, nor Zenit’s Europa League group games against Copenhagen, FC Slavia Prague and Bordeaux, nor their play-off win over (then Solskjaer’s) Molde to reach the groups, nor their third-qualifying round win over Dinamo Minsk to reach the play-off. Sorry. But Transfermarkt tells me he has four goals and four assists this season – not bad for a defensive midfielder.
